The Last Day of 2008

2008

I had a great meal on New Years Eve.  I had another great meal on Valentine’s Day.  I don’t remember what I did for my 28th birthday, and I don’t think my foggy recollection was because I got destroyed.  My mother bought us a car seat and I installed it all by myself and Coral installed it but I helped.  I saw a real life baby be born in a hospital.  I held Coral’s hand.  Madelyn was born.  I had the best bath of my life.  I walked to the Zone for the very last time after five years of walking to work everyday.  I DJ’d at Hugo’s every Tuesday night.  Coral and I bought a condo.  I laid down a laminate floor with lots of help from my friends.  I tried to do home renovations, it is much harder in real life than on TV.  I watched a lot of Gossip Girl.  The Amalgamated Team Zone raised the most money for the 24 Hour Relay for the Kids since the team began.  I changed a few diapers.  I read some good books and some less than good books.  I went to Las Vegas to see Natalie and Tyler get married.  I went to Tulameen to see one of my bestest and oldest friends get married.  I went to a wedding on a day that must have been 40 degrees outside.  I held Madelyn while she slept outside in a field near Pemberton, Trent Reznor was on stage.  I held Madelyn in the same field the next day and drank a beer during the best Tragically Hip set.  I went to Kelowna and rode in a boat under the new bridge.  I learned that a glycerine pellet up the bum will make a baby poop.  I listened to a lot of really great music.  I took Madelyn swimming in Shuswap Lake.  I took Madelyn swimming in Commonwealth pool.   I took Madelyn to meet her Great Grandmother and Great Grandfather.  James moved to Vancouver.  Dave moved back to Victoria.  I ate at Mo:le alot alot alot.  I started producing radio commercials.  I went to the Oak Bay Tea Party for the first time in my life.  I went to Port Angeles for the first time in my life.  I got engaged.  I helped Madelyn learn to crawl.  I helped Madelyn learn to walk.  I dropped Madelyn in a laundry basket.  I took lots of pictures.  I went to the Greek Festival.  I saw Plants and Animals at Lucky Bar.  I got really excited when I saw her first two teeth (and she still only has two).  I was at Hugo’s last night ever.  I went to Phillips Brewery’s grand opening party.  I got to ride on one of the new Ferries, twice.  I helped my brother demolish a deck.  I saw REM live (finally).  I thought I heard Madelyn say “Dad” like a bagillion times.  I DJ’d at The Clubhouse.  I won the prize for lamest moustache and Man of  Movember in the same night.  I ate a Dylan Extreme Burger I mostly ate a Dylan Extreme Burger.  I started blogging again.  I ran for Esquimalt Town Council.  I watched a documentary on Water Polo early one morning when Madelyn wouldn’t sleep, and I remember it so well.  I put up Christmas Lights.  I clipped Madelyn’s thumb when I tried cutting her finger nails for the first time by myself.  The end.
