John Denver

So, this is a thing.

I don’t know about you, but growing up my old man rocked a lot John Denver.  I can still sing-a-long word-for-word to so many of his songs.  Most all my family holiday memories recall a John Denver mixtape in the Voyager cassette deck.

Today ATO Records released, The Music Is You: A tribute to John Denver.

A pretty wonderful collection of contemporary artists putting their shine on a John Denver classic… except sadly, “Grandma’s Feather Bed.”

Track Listing for John Denver: The Music Is You

1. My Morning Jacket – Leaving on a Jet Plane
2. Dave Matthews – Take Me to Tomorrow
3. Kathleen Edwards – All of My Memories
4. J. Mascis & Sharon Van Etten – Prisoners
5. Train – Sunshine on My Shoulders
6. Old Crow Medicine Show – Back Home Again
7. Lucinda Williams – This Old Guitar
8. Amos Lee – Some Days Are Diamonds
9. Allen Stone – Rocky Mountain High
10. Brett Dennen and Milow – Annie’s Song
11. Evan Dando – Looking for Space
12. Emmylou Harris & Brandi Carlile – Take Me Home, Country Roads
13. Blind Pilot – The Eagle and the Hawk
14. Mary Chapin Carpenter – I Guess He’d Rather Be in Colorado
15. Josh Ritter and Barnstar! – Darcy Farrow
16. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros – Wooden Indian

Here are a few of my favourites that I could track down on soundcloud.

Love it… I might need to buy this one, at least one, for my old man.

Sitting around at the Veneto Lounge on Friday night…. head Bartender Simon was having a pint of something delicious and beer with Aaron from Habit Coffee.  The talk turned turned to music as it does with groovy people and both of them were talking about Jim James.

We know, love, and remember Jim James from the rock & roll band My Morning Jacket.

Both gentlemen had great things to say about Jim James’ album Regions of Light and Sound of God. And they are not alone in the praise.

Check out the song “A New Life.”
