My girl the Christi Wizard tried to tell me some fantastical fable about how Said the Whale took their band name from the lyric of a Hollerado song, “Walking on the Sea.”
Right? Fantastical?
First off… Said the Whale started in about 2007 and Hollerado maybe put their album out in what? 2010? 2009 tops. So never mind the implications that the Wizard’s charge might have on the space-time continuum…. it is just so improbable.
Second… I remembered that I am in fact super besties with Tyler. Well… Facebook friends. I asked him:
the Christi Kay Wizard was trying to tell me that the name “Said the Whale” came from a Hollerado lyric. Does that even make sense? It doesn’t to me.
There you go… Hollerado took their name from a Said the Whale lyric. That is science.
Hollerado – “Walking on the Sea”
Go with yourself.
Huh. See? That’s why you get paid for this stuff and I am a mere wizard.
Hey, this is Jake – I play drums in Hollerado. We didn’t take our name from Said the Whale, they didn’t take their name from us.
The words “Said the Whale” are in a hollerado song, because we fuckin love those guys. They are our brothers. We have been on tour before, and any time I’m in Vancouver I make an effort to see them. OK – I’ll admit – I love Spencer the most (drummers) but all of those guys (and girl) are fuckin awesome.
Jake, I love that you took the time to reply to my blog!
I remember hearing this in 2009 to this song, while taking an evening walk and heard that lyric. I stopped and said “did they just say said the whale?! huh weird” and wondered this exact same question!
question solved!
I’m just so impressed that they found a way to use Jacques Cousteau in a song lyric!
