Bands send all sorts of stories over the email to get you to hit play on their streams. Today’s was one of the weirder.
Meet Norwegian Arms.
Philadelphian Brendan Mulvihill traveled to Siberia with a mandolin and a Vampire Weekend record and hung out with the wolves for a year. (Brendan, the flights to Edmonton have to be cheaper than Siberia).
Came back to the States with a sea of Siberian gulag tales and hopped in the studio with Dr. Dog’s Eric Slick. The result is a Vampire-ish Weekend sounding record where they sing about Soviet Russia instead of The Hamptons. Neat.
Its a little off beat, rustic, weird, pretty, interesting. Songs about a time and a place and an adventure.
Go with yourself.
