In a pre-Lorde world, there was a young lady named Birdy. This UK singer put out a self-titled record consisting almost entirely of covers. Like check out this cover of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love.”
I also really dug her take on Phoenix’s “1901.”
The second to last song that record was an original and the promise of more to come.
The 17-year-old has released that follow up, its called Fire Within. The record is out in part of the world far more exotic than Canada, but a North American release is planned for 2014.
The single is called “Wings.” Its a big polished pop ballad. Popmatters does a pretty good job in their article breaking down the tracks.
Song kinda reminds me of Snow Patrol? Little bit.
