Matthew Good performed in Victoria last night at The Royal. My friend Razer dragged me along for a night. I hadn’t seen Matt Good in awhile so it was nice to hear some of the old songs.
The set was heavier on his new stuff form the record Arrows of Desire. The new stuff didn’t do it for me personally with the exception of the singles “Arrows of Desire” and “Had it Coming” which really popped. Being a fan from back in the beginning, I prefer the older song and I thought the energy of the whole room elevated when he busted into his more familiar music. A few songs really stood out for me, I thought “Weapon” sounded bossanova. He has not posted any live cuts from Victoria, but here is his performance 0f the song in Peterborough earlier in the tour.
I also enjoyed “Born Losers” from 2007’s Hospital Music.
The set sounded great in the theatre. I might have added a few more “hits” to the mix, but I’m a radio DJ, not a rock star. My personal favoruite is “Generation X-Wing.” That song did not make the cut…but let’s relive the magic together on Youtube.
So good.
Go with yourself.
