I’ve been on a ferocious Taking Back Sunday kick lately…. the song A Decade Under the Influence came on the satellite radio the other day. When I got home from driving around I had to dive into my old CDs to find Tell All Your Friends and Where You Want to Be.
and a few from Tell All Your Friends.
This is an exert from an old blog post I wrote about this song: “One of the oddest experiences in my life involved a trip to Bob’s cabin at Christina Lake one summer. We had just arrived on the property and were unpacking. I had climbed up the stair in behind the cabin and around the side where there was a clearing looking out over the lake. It suddenly began to pour rain very heavily. The song “You Know How I Do” began to play loudly, inside my head… but the sound seemed to me to be originating from outside my body. It was very surreal, like I was engulfed in sound. It was loud and drowned out every other sound. A magical moment that has never replicated itself in my life, but I hold out hope that it will again one day.”
And here is another old blog post about that time me and Matt went to see them at Richards.
“And the time me and Matt saw them at Richard’s On Richards.
I can’t remember what summer it was, but we headed down for a snazzy quadruple bill of the hottest emo bands of the time, all headlined by The Used. When we got there, there was a sign on the door that said 3 of the 4 bands couldn’t make it over the border. FUCK. We came to see TBS!
Turns out, the one band that got to Vancouver, was Taking Back Sunday. They offered a refund at the door (sweet) then TBS played as the only band that night. They played an “extended set” which was their whole first album. and that was it. One of the best shows I’ve been to.”
Go with yourself.
