I was listening to a bunch of old Braid and American Football songs over the weekend. While building the playlist, iTunes said, “people who bought this, also bought this: Beach Slang.”
I downloaded a few songs and I’m glad I did. The Philadelphia punk band has a couple eps out already and plans to record this summer for Polyvinyl. That band is currently touring the US with Cursive. BukowskiBastards interviewed James Alex to get the plan for a new record, “Yeah, I have the entire record written and home-demoed. I just need to get the Slangs in a room and make them loud. The plan is to record in July for an October/November release. We’ve been playing a couple new songs on the Cursive tour and kids have been super enthusiastic which, you know, means everything.”
My favourite song is called “American Girls and French Kisses”
Beach Slang lead singer James Alex (Snyder) isn’t new to the game. He fronted 90’s Philly alter-rockers Weston. Pitchfork draws some parallels between the two projects.
Go with yourself.
