Iceland’s latest modern rock stars Kaleo have a new listen for us. Their song “No Good” first showed up on the soundtrack for HBO’s VINYL.(Coral and I love that show)
The band recently performed the Sasquatch Festival where my friend Christy said; “Almost done my first work day post-Sasquatch. Listening to this guy on repeat to keep myself awake. If you haven’t checked him out yet, do it! He blew us away this weekend!!”
The band’s album A/B is out on June 10th (hey! THIS FRIDAY!). Likely gunna be essential summertime listening.
And here’s a pic of one of the bros enjoying the majestic Grand Canyon on a bit of a holiday after Sasquatch.
I’ve totally been there too, man.
More info? Here is the press bio from their record label: Best friends since attending elementary school in the small town of Mosfellsbaer outside of Reykjavik, bandleader JJ Juliusson, drummer David Antonsson Crivello, and bassist Danny Jones began playing together at the age of 17 before adding guitarist Rubin Pollock to the mix in 2012. They named the band Kaleo, which means “the sound” in Hawaiian, and started their career in earnest with a handful of well-received shows at the 2012 Iceland Airwaves music festival. The band made waves in their homeland with their 2013 self-titled debut album, which featured the jaunty folk-rock of “Automobile” to the lo-fi bluesy sketch “Broken Bones”to a modern remake of a traditional Icelandic tune.
Go with yourself.
