Back to the grind after an incredible weekend up on Brown’s Mountain for the Tall Tree Music Festival. Brown’s Mountain is just outside of Port Renfrew on Vancouver Island. If you take the highway 14 west out of Victoria and drive till it ends, you reach Port Renfrew.
The festival is a wild and crazy time outside of civilization, cell towers, flushing toilets and wifi. Bands and DJs from Noon till about 6AM. Tents, beers, campstove cookouts, kombucha, freaky people, good vibes.
A highlight for me was seeing Vancouver Island favourites Current Swell returning to Tall Tree for the first time since they performed the inaugural one for a few hundred people back in 2010(?).
I’ve been a fan of Current Swell since their earlier days and seeing them Friday night was magical. They performed their 2009 song “Young And Able” and it was a time in their set that I will remember.
Coral and I made the 5-and-half-hours-ish trek from Vancouver because I was fortunate to be given a time to DJ! It was one of the greatest DJ moments I’ve had in my career and only one of a handful of festivals I’ve had the chance to DJ at.
It was a wet one this weekend, especially on the Friday. Here’s a pic of my wife Coral at our “Eagle View” camp.
And look at this… someone proposed up at the Tall Tree Music Festival! I love love.
I already can’t wait for next year…and it was inspiring to see so many great DJs. I need to keep my nose to the turntable and pushing my skills. Now that I have had a taste, I’ll want to DJ another festival!

Go with yourself.
