Back from a baby overnight hiking trip with my brother. We had a good and simple weekend of hanging out on Mystic Beach and exploring the Juan de Fuca Trail. We were the only people camping overnight on the beach which was very cool (Mystic can be pretty busy during the summer). We took a day hike towards Bear Beach and didn’t pass a single person there or back.
It was nice to be out of cell phone reception for 36 hours or so. But the whole time, I just wanted to instagram my brother’s stupid backpack! (and post a pic of our amazing fire that we got raging from damp drift wood).
My brother and I will need to plan our next expedition soon. I wonder if we could pull off a winter hike and camp?
My brother packed along his iPod and a dock for some tunes while huddled around our late October fire sipping on the couple beers we managed to squeeze into our packs. Lots of quality classic rock, 90s alternative, and even a few contemporary folky types. Every so often a Current Swell jam would come on and we’d both laugh about how much our situation looked like a Sitka commercial.
Fuck, I need a Sitka poncho so bad.
Go with yourself.
