Trolling some US alternative radio charts for a few radio gems. Here are a few that caught my year.

Let’s start with the band NO. The California group ended up at Rifflandia last year (pictured above when I tracked them down for an interview.)

“we make some noise in a room and call it art.”

I like it…big, brooding, dark, jangly indie rock. NO.

Coral heard this one on the Alt Nation on Sirius XM and really liked it. The band is Magic Man. The New England band have a record coming out in July called Before the Waves. We’ll file this under fun anthemic pop. They are looking forward to a tour with Youngblood Hawke, Panic at the Disco and Walk The Moon. That sounds like they’ll be in good company.

Florida’s Hot Water Music has new tunes? Neat.

HWM lead singer guy Chuck Ragan is part of the National Lampoon’s European Adventure with friends of the show Billy The Kid and Northcote. Also neat.

Folk-Punk is a thing now eh?

I’ll wrap today with some EDM form Dillon Francis.  His joint with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs.

And his remix of Chromeo because Chromeo is so hot right now. Red hot.

No the band from Echo Park

No the band
No the band, from Echo Park, Los Angeles, California came to Victoria.  Their first ever Canadian show was at 3PM on a Friday.  There were not too many people in attendance as the doors of Rifflandia had just opened.   For those of us that started our party early, we had a chance to see a pretty decent, moody, indie band.

No’s most popular song on soundcloud is called “Stay With Me.”  The song was featured on the TV show Suits the other day.

It would be pretty easy to draw a parallel to Brooklyn’s The National.  It has that gravity and atmosphere for sure.  Here is another song I liked off their ep.  This one reminds me of the Airborne Toxic Event, or even Atomic Tom.

Go with yourself.
