Anna of the North shared her first new songs since her debut album Lover came out in 2017. She has been busy. the title track single end up on the Netflix show To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. The placement helped drive over 27 million streams on Spotify. She has lent her vocals to Tyler the Creator and The Chainsmokers and today we have “Leaning On Myself.”

Anna of the North spent time in LA. Her press release shared this quote form her time in southern California.

I’ve been writing a lot of music the past year. ‘Leaning On Myself” is one of the songs that came out of it, maybe one of my favourite songs. I remember flying home from the States where we wrote it and I started crying. I kind of realized I’d written the soundtrack of my life one year ago. There was a point where I went through a lot of shit and I wasn’t feeling very well. I had one big break down where I called my mom and just knew I had to change my ways. I had to cut some people out of my life, people I loved but I knew weren’t really good for me. It was tough. But I’m good now. Every time I listen to this song it takes me back to that moment. It’s fucking sad but also powerful. I’m very grateful for where I am today. In the end you only have yourself, you know, and I guess that’s ok.

I took a couple days of last week which was nice. Originally I took the days for my wife Coral’s birthday! But then she got terribly sick, so then I spent the days helping to look after our baby Elliot. Last Friday had the Arkells in Vancouver. They performed a pop-up show at a donut shop on Main Street so I brought the baby. Here we are with the boys in the band.

Slum Sociable

Music blog hype person Anna sent me over a couple to check out. Liked ’em both, so you’re getting them on Thursday afternoon.

Slum Sociable is a pair of bros from Melbourne. Melbourne sounds like a groovy place…there is a coffee shop in Vancouver that is described as a “Melbourne style coffee shop.” Add it’s really good.

This song, “Castle” comes form their upcoming debut record in October. Anna says, “The track is just so effortlessly cool – it sways through an array of genres and sits at the intersections of jazz, electronica and soul. If you love Bonobo or Animal Collective and super rad Aussie acts like Big Scary, you are going to adore this new one.

Anna of The North has a new record called Lovers out on September 8th!

The Soundcloud gremlins took over and played a “recommended track…it is so quirky. I think I love it?

Just got back from a little holiday. It was nice.

Norwegian alterna-pop singer Anna of the North shares a new song today called “Someone.”

The song leans heavy on a vintage 80s soft-rock vibe…at least to my ears. Reminds me of listening to CFUN 1410 AM when I was a kid.

The song comes from her debut album, Lovers, which comes out on September 8th (via Honeymoon / +1 Records / Different Recordings).

Anna of the North is Norwegian Anna Lotterud….who legend has it, was doing an Eat, Pray, Love sorta thing in Australia when she met New Zealander Brady Daniel-Smith in Melbourne, where he was performing an acoustic set. They became friends and started created music.

The group talks about “Someone:”

“We think almost everyone has woken up after a big night, instantly regretting something that happened. It’s about how easy it is to break your promises when you’ve had a couple of drinks. Going deeper, the song is about accepting that you’re only human and to learn how to forgive yourself for your own mistakes and accepting that sometimes we need someone to save us from repeating any old habits.”

I’m gunna need to pre-order that record.

Anna also lends her vocals to this Tyler, The Creator track.

Norwegian ‘Scandi-pop’ duo Anna of The North (Anna Lotterud & Brady Daniell-Smith) have a beautiful music video for us today for their song “Oslo.”

Brady has never been to Oslo (or hadn’t at the time of writing the song) and was inspired seeing a picture  of the city. “I’d never been to Oslo. It seemed so untouched and really captured my imagination.”

They met some Norwegian friends in Australia and they were homesick so they mashed it out. “I met Anna soon after and we finished it together – she brought an authenticity to it that makes it feel like a love letter to the city.”

Since Vancouver has basically had to endure winter like a whole month, this video speaks to my heart.

Here’s the music video for Norway’s Anna of The North song “Baby.”

“We made the video whilst on tour in Europe on a day off in Lisbon. We wanted a video that was very graphic and represented the different textures throughout the track. We really like Peter Pint’s previous work, he had a real strong connection with the track and we’re real happy with what he’s done.”

Anna of The North from Norway is a rising chill vocalist.

Baby” is a slow, synthy, sparkly song, capturing the energy of what it’s like to be awake at 3 AM thinking of that other person. – NOISEY

She’s touring Europe in April with Kygo. That should be pretty big for her. I love her style. Remember that Chainsmokers remix of “Sway?” Fuffff…..so good.

“On top, such a beautiful view”

The Chainsmokers of NYC sent over their remix of Norwegian singer Anna of The North’s “Sway.”

Pigeons and Planes says, “Her music is electronically-tinged indie pop, but unlike so much of the music in that style, it avoids being too bubbly or trying too hard to be futuristic.”

I like Chainsmokers’ remixes of indie pop…they don’t go too over-the-top and puke put some weird fist banger.

Alex and Drew chose to remix Anna of The North because, “Anna of the North is this new artist who is so badass. She has an incredible voice, is incredibly cool and when we heard her original song SWAY… it just glowed… if a song was every incandescent it would be SWAY…  She is pretty new and has some cool attention but it just getting go!”

“Just move with me darling, and I’m gunna move with you too.”
