Buntzen

Started the day today with a hike at Buntzen. Coral and I had Jack and he’s only 20 months, so I won’t say it was an arduous hike…but we also made it to the Viewpoint and Jack walked pretty much the whole there, and the entire way back. That’s impressive. He was attacked by exactly zero cougars. I’ll call that a win.

MUSIC!

Alison Mosshart, Jack White and Company have shared another song off their September 25th record Dodge And Burn.

We’ve already heard The Dead Weather’s “I Feel Love (Every Million Miles)” and now we have this barn burner. “Cop and Go.”

Muse covered CHVRCHES. I am not going to come on here and tell you I love this cover. But it is a thing.

I wanna end with this beauty remix of Panama.

Off to Foo Fighters tonight at Rogers Arena. Coral is going to drop our daughter Madelyn off with me and we’ll check that out together. Dustin at CFOX asked if I had ear protection for her and I said, “the Foo Fighters aren’t *that* loud.”

And he said, “get ear plugs you dummy, you’ve already wrecked your ears and so NO bands are loud to you.”

huh.

Our second listen off the upcoming CHVRCHES record Every Eye Open is really good. “Never Ending Circle” is the name of the cut. Record is out September 25th.

Here is the previous CHVRCHES song.

We’re giving away a trip to Iceland here at CFOX.

Last summer I talked to Ryan Jacobs. He is an “elf expert” and wrote an article a couple years ago for The Atlantic about the belief in elves in Iceland.

London, UK positive rockers Thumpers recently sat down to cover Scottish group Chvrches.  They took on their song “Lungs.”  Sorry I guess its THUMPERS and CHVRCHES….as Stereogum says, they are upper-case enthusiasts.

And we’ll leave you with a song called “Galore.”

The Wednesday cover song freakout returns.

It begins with Denmark’s covering the Spice Girls.  Yeah, this is happening.

Scotland’s Chvrches ended up on Australia radio station Triple J to record a “Like a Version.”  They covered the Arctic Monkey’s “Do I Wanna Know?”

I could listen to CHVRCHES all day, every day.

Here are some links to people paid more to think about music than I am >> Pitchfork :: Stereogum

and I dunno… maybe you feel like reading about Fred Durst in Spin?  I did.

chvrches band pic
Sometimes it can feel like a band came out of “nowhere.”  But that is almost never the case.

Glasgow’s Chvrches are quickly becoming one of my favourite groups.  Pitchfork caught up with the group to get some of their ideas.  One part that stood out for me was lead singer Lauren Mayberry talking about women in music and in pop music.

“I did my dissertation on the idea of femininity and women’s writing, so I spent eight months reading about how women are portrayed in the media in terms of images and tone of voice and what words are used. It’s something that I think about all the time, so I’ve been on the offensive with that from the start. We’ve had a couple of situations where people pitched things to us that we would never do, like individual entries in women’s magazines. It’s nice of them to offer, but I don’t ever want to do that. Not that there’s anything wrong with anybody doing that– that’s absolutely their choice– but it would make it trickier for me to sleep at night. I worry enough anyway.”

She goes on to talk about her lyrics.

“Someone once said to me that no one gives a shit about the lyrics in pop songs, but I find that very offensive because I always listen to them. I never wanted to write really cheesy pop lyrics– like, “baby, baby, the sun is shining”– that’s not something that interests me personally. I’m always wanting to write something that has some kind of meaning.”

Great article.  And band member Martin Doherty performed with the Twilight Sad?  Awesome.

The Scottish trio Chvrches sound delightful.  Perfect pop music and one of Coral’s current faves.  We’ll have to get our hands on the Recover ep when it comes out March 25th.  Today a blog called A Feast of Beast posted a song that was new to me.  I could not find a proper stream so I ripped their stream and I’ll share it here with you.

Chvrches – “Now Is Not The Time”

Such a pretty song.  The band is getting all the hype with the BBC’s Zne Lowe calling the upcoming ep the “hottest record in the world!”  Dare to believe the hype?

Coral got me interested in Scottish indie popsters Chvrches.  The song “The Mother We Share” is so pretty.  Electro beat, production doo-dads, and fairy vocals.  It might be a little too sugary sweet for some ears but I find myself constantly hitting play on this song.

Lead singer Lauren Mayberry is also a bit of a writer…. she wrote an article about Piercing Health back in 2010 that won an award?  Huh.

Martin Doherty was in The Twilight Sad… hey, I’ve heard of those guys.

The song, let’s go.

Chvrches – “The Mother We Share”

There is also a remix bouncing around today….

Chvrches – “The Mother We Share” (Miaoux Miaoux Remix)

Happy Halloween friends…. I’ll be bundling up (though I think the rain is calming down) for some door-to-door action with Madelyn.  She’ll be dressed as a Baroness!

Go with yourself.
