bleachers

I’ve always enjoyed Jack Antonoff’s Bleachers music. Bleachers new record is due sometime this summer. Hey man, Jack is a busy guy…he was there helping Lorde on what will be her next super smash, Melodrama.

If you are familair with Bleachers or even his previous band .fun, then you’ll have a pretty good idea of what is about to go down. 80’s-ish sounding synth based pop. I think you’ll hear Lorde a little on this song in the mix too. Neat.

Talking to Rolling Stone he talks about the first sing ‘Don’t Take The Money.”

I wanted to write this song from the perspective of two incredibly complicated people who are dealing with loss and anxiety and depression. You have these crazy fights, and after you go all the way to the bottom, everything is so clear.

Bleachers remix
Big sounding remix of Bleachers “I Wanna Get Better.”  Vince Clarke of Depche Mode fame synthses it right out.  He has created bouncy head bopping dance cut that keeps many of the original cut’s core elements.  But I am also hearing industrial beats and sounds.

bleachers-400x400
It is hard for me when I am reading about a new band or song and I see, “inspired by John Hughes.”  That phrase needs to be expunged from your band’s bio.

Today it is Jack Antonoff of fun. using phrase to describe his new side-project, Bleachers.

Antonoff was talking to Radio.com, ““There’s something nostalgic and ’80s and John Hughes about some of the stuff I do, but I never wanted to make anything that was in any way retro.”

Let’s check out the positive rock song “I Wanna Get Better.”  Its a catchy jingle that leans on that fun. sound.

Fun covers Ellie Goulding

fun-fun-band-32076072-500-656

CERN just collided two of my wife’s favourites.  Fun covering Ellie Goulding‘s “Anything Could Happen.”

Recoded by the BBC because that what’s they do… get bands to lay down a cover.  And bless them for that.  When I ask bands to play a cover on my radio show they say, “uh no.”

fun
Listen to the new song from Fun.  The song is called “Sight of the Sun.”  The song is streaming over at Rolling Stone right now with some thoughts from Nate Ruess.  I ripped it to share below. Hilly Dilly ripped it (thank you!)

The song was originally created for their massive massive Some Nights.  The song didn’t make the cut because of a sample the band couldn’t get cleared.  Enter Lena Dunham from the TV show Girls (season 2 premiers on January 13th) looking for a track for season two.  Nate dusted off the cut, reworked the offending sample out and bingo-bongo… we got a new jam.

I love Girls, I have a love/hate with Fun… this relationship I can get behind IF its open bar.

Fun singing Carry On

Ugh… fun.  This band is just so bloody uplifting.  I try to not let the music in my head but then…listening to the Peak this morning and there it is.  In my head.

They have an acoustic version floating around the intertron.  Here ya go.  Warning, its just so emotional!

fun. – “Carry On” (acoustic)

some nights I call it a draw

The title track to fun’s record Some Nights is an interesting song. There is a lot that goes on during this song which admittedly sometimes turns me off.  But other times, I really like the positive vibe and pounding drums.  Coral thinks it sounds like a marching band or drum line.

fun. – “Some Nights”

Nate Ruess messes around with the auto-tune at one point in the song. That is bizarre considering the rest of the harmonies are very pretty.  But then he starts wanking off with the auto-tune.  Whatever, he’s the rock star, and its a number 1 record so he must have it figured out.

Lyrically its a very uplifting song and for whatever reason makes me happy.

Go with yourself.
