verite black and white

BIG beats on this Verite remix. I know it’s Monday and we should ease into it…but here we are.

It was Santa Claus Parade in Vancouver yesterday… and yeah I wore a Rudolph onesie.

And to keep the festive party raging… Coral and I took the kids to get a Christmas tree. Then we decorated and smashed a couple rum and eggnogs.

This was the only pic I took and posted.

How many sleeps? 21? something like that. Kids are amped.

DJing a ton right now. I’m not sure if Decembers or summer are busier for this DJ Dad… but it is all cylinders right now.

white-panda

The White Panda sent over their punched up take on Verite’s most excellent The 1975 cover of “Somebody Else.”

In an email Tom from White Panda said, “We thought it would be fun to give a more dancey edge to her soothing vocals, and were really pleased with how it came out.”

Yesterday was my daughter’s 9th birthday!

I took the day off at the radio station so my wife and her mother could Madelyn to a tea house in Vancouver.

I totally flaked on this year. I wanted to theme her 9th birthday after the movie 9. Do you remember that movie?  When Madelyn was a baby (or like toddler) she used to watch that movie all the time. I must have seen it a thousand times.

And I remember thinking, “when she turns 9, I’ll get her like a 9 birthday cake or something.”

But then life happened and the obsession for the film 9 was replaced and replaced again. And replaced again and she is into different things now.

Today we’re taking a gaggle of 9-year-olds to see the Lego Batman movie. Fun. Pray for me and my wife.

#tbt 2009 was a very good year.

And how about that Coheed & Cambria at the end of the trailer. I’m pumped!

verite

Happy Friday! Fall came quickly and completely to Vancouver. It was like the calendar flipped to September and everyone had a Pumpkin Spice Latte in their hand and a chunky sweater on.

It’s been awhile since I’ve checked in with NYC’s Verite. She tweeted out this cover of The 1975’s “Somebody Else.”

I can’t not like the original as much as I fight against my ’75 fanboydom. I hit play on Verite’s take. 1975’s take is still the standard, but I like Verite too.My heart is big enough to love both.

Before school fired up and the rains returned we did manage some beach time on the Island.

bridges

Big, arena filling, guitar rock from Bridges. The British band is from Bristol. The band reminds me of Kings of Leon. Has a bit of lazy swagger early on the cut “BFF” before tightening the focus and taking off with a soaring chorus.

“work it out, you’ve always been best friends.”

Touching sentiment, let’s hit play.

black honey

I was feeling the Wolf Alice yesterday and it seems some of you record promoters actually read the blogs (huh)…and so I was sent another UK band called Black Honey.

The rockers are from Brighton. I always seem to be getting emails from bands out of Brighton…is that a hip part of England? It’s on the ocean, all cities on the ocean are hip.

The song is called “Madonna.” Part of a double a-side they are releasing April 6th.

verite

Party ends in New York City. Alternapop from Vérité. Her new song is called “Wasteland.”

Touring back east right now. UK tour coming up and she’ll be at SXSW. Nothing in the Pacific North-West. Boo-hoo.

Happy Thursday! One more sleep then I’m back to Victoria. We’re throwing our daughter a great big 7th birthday party, I’m gunna DJ!  Huge gig. ahhh, my kid is like Shoshanna in Girls, lives on the edge of fashion.

Oh shit…and I’m hanging out with Sam Roberts tomorrow. So there’s that.

verite graphic

When Joel Almand is not shovelling snow in Buffalo…the Upstate New York producer is turning up the thump on Verite’s “Weekend.”

I played “Weekend” last Thursday at my bi-weekly Clubhouse night and a couple college kids came up to me to say, “Verite? Nice, I love her.” And I love you groovy college kid.

Verite

“Every music bloggers favourite; VÉRITÉ …

What of it Junkyard Music? I love Verite so much.

The latest from the NYC based singer is a stompy one called “Echo.”

And her first single is called “Strange Enough.”

The Scientists of Sound have some more Verite.

While trolling soundcloud a couple nice songs showed up on a “People Who Played ‘Strange Enough’ Also Played” list… Neat.

“I fucked her every Wednesday evening…” whoa.

dilfs

Sometimes I really like pop music. Verite is a pop singer from New York. The song “Weekend” has sat a top Hype Machine’s chart.

Verite talks about the song: “An old friend of mine lived on this quiet, dead end residential street with bright florescent lights. I had the image of us falling down in the stillness of the scene. From the first line, the song winds up being an ode to the nostalgia of how, despite how sick we were or how insane things get, we can take moments from the craziest times and glorify them as being absolutely perfect.

The new video is sexy but also sweet before revealing a darker melodrama.
