Some nerdy indie rock that reminds me of playing radio on CiTR. The band is called Modern Baseball. The Philly indie-punkers put out their album Holy Ghost last week. I have a song for you called “Wedding Singer.”

No Vancouver show but a couple Pacific Northwest dates in Portland and Seattle.

6/7 – Portland, OR – Hawthorne Theater
6/8 – Seattle, WA – Showbox

Wolf Parade played a “secret” show last night in Cobble Hill. My man Tyson was there and texted me some photos. He wrote about the second of series of warmup Vancouver Island shows on his Rocktography website.

The band has a new EP out on May 17th…right now it’s just called ep4. You can read some more over at Pitchfork.

We’ll get a chance to see Wolf Parade this September at Rifflandia.

New Jersey alternative band A R I Z O N A have a music video for their song “I Was Wrong.”

It’s a pretty chill track. Talking to Nylon, “‘I Was Wrong’ is an interesting piece to us in the sense that it doesn’t really say anything profound or earth-shattering. It’s just very honest.”

The video has only been out for a few days and already has almost 20,000 views. On Soundcloud the track has edged over 250,000 spins. Neat.

I have been enjoying Montreal’s Plants and Animals for many years. I’ll always remember seeing them at Lucky Bar in Victoria many years ago. I bought a t-shirt…where the logo looked a little like Plant Sand Animals. Which is awesome. My Dad weirdly loved it so much, I had to order him one and he doesn’t know the band. I guess that is a testament to good design?

Their new record is out now and is called Waltzed in from the Rumbling.

Tyler from Said The Whale really likes it. And I like Tyler, so I’ll bite.

Shows in the Pacific Northwest!

6/16: Vancouver, BC – The Imperial Theatre
6/17: Victoria, BC – Sugar Nightclub
6/18: Seattle, WA – Sunset Tavern
6/21: Portland, OR – Mississippi Studios

I love James Blake. His music is so weird and dark and oddly comforting to me.

His new record is called The Colour of Everything and features a song called “I Need a Forest Fire” which features the vocals of Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. The video is a stunning thing to look at and the song is on repeat for me right now.

How about this…cassettes are so hot right now. And here’s a record that would lend itself so easily to cassette.

Blah, feeling like a pile of shit today. This James Blake song is helping a lot.

arkells band pic

Arkells fourth album, Morning Report, is out on August 5th. Today they released their first feature cut off the disc called “Private School.” Singer guy Max Kerman talks about the single and shares his love of NBA basketball.

We’ll get a chance to see Arkells this summer at Pemberton and in Victoria for Rifflandia in September.

young the giant

More radio friff rock today…modern rockers Young The Giant have a song called “Something To Beelive In.” It comes from a record called Home of the Strange. Record is out August 12.

Booked a wedding for August in Victoria…so I think and I am going to stop dreaming and start doing. Of course things change, life changes…but my goal is to take my daughter backpack camping. They have some choice beaches on Vancouver Island that are a moderate hike and something I think my 8-year-old can bite off.  Fun!

Backpacks,, flashlights, s’mores, (6 pack of beer for me), Mystic!

chilipeppers

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have been grinding out sunny Californian radio-alt rock since the 80s!

Their 11th studio record is out on June 17th and will be called The Getaway.

The Chili Peppers haven’t turned my crank in awhile and truth be told, I was expecting to hate this cut….but you know what, I don’t hate it. It’s not a revolutionary jam, but it is pleasant.

The song is called “Dark Necessities” and features some funky Flea bass, disco piano and Anthony Kiedis singing about drugs, I think. It’s what he tends to sing about.

The band is doing some shows and festivals, but nothing in the Pacific Northwest.

Canadians are amped on the census this year. So many Canadian are filling it out, it actually crashed the government website!

I wanted in on the fun, so I filled mine out.
