Twisted fingers and happy hearts… Mike Edel released a new song on his soundcloud the other day called “Blue Above The Green.” He says the song is about spring time.

Mike Edel’s new record is called India, Seattle. The Victoria folkster is hitting the road with fellow Island squad Towers & Trees. We’ll get a chance to see Mike Edel on April 9th in Vancouver at The Biltmore and the following nights in Victoria at The Roxy.

And let’s check in with Towers and Trees. Check out this beauty cover of Lana Del Rey’s “West Coast” recorded on The Zone with my best English mate Jon Williams.

April 9th? Is that a Thursday? Maybe I could go to that?

Back in November, our second Band of the Month Showcase went down at Upstairs Cabaret on the inner harbour of Downtown Victoria. The show was amazing (as they always tend to be).  A full room of groovy people out for a Friday night celebrating live and local rock & roll.  There were many highlights, including Towers and Trees‘ performance of their single “Montreal.”

Have a listen to THIS!

Band of the Month is brought to you by Lighthouse Brewing Company (readers from outside Victoria should check it out, great Island craft beer).  All the live sets were recorded and mixed by Todd Hooge at Hooge Studio.

New music down the pipe from a couple Island artists (who might be living in Vancouver now?).

First…new music video from Johnny Galactic.

Rolla Olak checked in to share his alt-country jam.

Rolla Olak will be in the Nanoose Bay area for a show on October 5th with rising Island stars Towers and Trees. I *think* Jon Williams is MCing the event! No wait… he is MCing the Towers and Trees October 19th show at Canoe.

The Zone Band of the Month, Towers and Trees came on the radio today to perform a couple quality songs.

The first they performed was their local hit, “Montreal.”  I had to ask Adrian (the lead singer) if the song was auto-biographical or fantasy.  He said it was fantasy, but some of the thoughts (he won’t say which) later became facts after a recent trip to Quebec.  Atta boy.

They they performed the first song off their record, Broken Record.  The song is called “We’re Not island” and Adrian says its about love.  d’aww.

Look for Towers and Trees at VicFest this June.

Bluesy West Coast boogy, that is the best way to describe Victoria’s The Grass Tracks.

The boys will be stopping by The Zone Afternoon show on Wednesday for an interview and live performance at 4PM.

Our feature song on the radio is this beauty, “Joker.”

The band is up at UVi’c’s Felicita’s Pub on Friday with Towers and Trees.  FUN!

Towers and Trees

If you’re in a band from Vancouver Island and you don’t have trees on the album cover, you’re doing it wrong.

Towers and Trees make a sound that fans of The Lumineers or The Archers might be able to get behind.  Adrian Chalifour is the principle of the project.  He brought together a collection of some his favourite Victorian musicians for a pretty, fun, well produced, DIY style EP called Broken Record.

A couple songs that caught my ear are:

Your chance to see Towers and Trees will be on a Wednesday, Decembver 12th at…some venue I’ve never heard of…sounds sketchy.  Hit the Facebook page for details. They are collecting food for the Food Bank, so bring some grub to give.
