X AMBASSADORS.png

X Ambassadors stopped by CFOX’s Ugly Grey Box Studio to perform their #1 Modern Rock hit “Renegades.” They also talked a bit about growing up friends in Ithaca and the first song they played together as kids was a Chili Peppers’ song. Neat.

Oh I wanted to share this video with you. I made this other day. I was putting my 22-month-old to bed and we were reading one of his favourite books. He started listing off the things he saw in the pictures, so I recorded him because he is cute as fuck.

Now you may go with yourself.

lights out

Power outage last night in Vancouver. It was a dark one in the suburbs. Coral sorted out some candles and Chinese takeout for the kids.

Here’s our power’s out song…. Nothing But Thieves “Trip Switch”

I’ll be yapping with X Ambassadors today and I’ll have a live performance of “Renegades” for you in a bit.

artiq
Artiq from Rotterdam sent over his new remix of Bill Withers‘ “Just the Two of Us.” He kept it easy and breezy. A perfect chill remix for what has turned out to be a solid Sunday here in Vancouver.

“When I first heard this classic soul track, I got really inspired to make a remix of it. I tried to keep this remix as clean as possible, to let Bill Withers his beautiful voice stand out.”

He also has an earlier tropical remix of Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition.” Let’s try that one out too.

In stomach flu related news..I ate two solid food meals so far today! Go me. I haven’t had a solid shit in three days, but baby steps, and I managed to hammer through almost all of Master of None. I think that is an achievement.

Because I do whatever AC Newman from The New Pornographers tells me to do, I hit play on Car Seat Headrest’s “Something Soon.”

Car Seat Headrest is a guy named Will Toledo. His Matador records debut, Teens of Style, came out on October 30th. It’s a collection of bedroom, demo, band camp stuff, rerecorded.

Here is that song, four years ago from his soundcloud.

Blah, getting over a nasty stomach flu here. It basically worked it’s way through both my kids, wife, mother-in-law, then me. But starting to feel like a human being today. I think I should go outside.

strange talk

Toronto producer (or maybe Montreal) Robotaki has put his spin on Aussie act Strange Talk’s “Painted in Gold.” I like the sound of this one.

One of my favourite records right now, Beach Slang‘s The Things We Do To Find People Who Feel Like Us has a music video for the song “Bad Art & Weird Ideas.”

And fi you are jiving on Beach Slang, then read this great SPIN article on the group.

Today is Remembrance Day in Canada. I hope you had a chance to reflect.

My daughter and I hit the cenotaph in our town. Now the sun is shining so that means we’ll get a chance to go skateboarding.

Hey music blog reader…sorry it’s been some time since I hit the MAS blog…before Halloween? Nuts. I’ll need to try to stay up on it…I don’t have many readers, but I do enjoy trolling for new music. And I have some DJ gigs coming up, it gives me an excuse to listen to lots of stuff.

Here is a song I heard today, it’s pretty chill. Very beautiful. Performer is called Cigarettes After Sex, song is “Affection.”

And since we’re jamming pretty ones, how about Aquilo. I love this guy(s).

panama wedding
Brooklyn’s Panama Wedding are back with a new song called “Infinite High.” New record is Into Focus and comes out on November 6th on Glassnote.

“Living month to month on a credit card. And there’s never quite enough, just being who we are.”

Next band was sold to me as shades of Royal Blood or Foo Fighters. Since I believe anything a PR person tells me on an unsolicited email, I hit play. Band is Armchair Committee.

“the band grabs the aggression and experimentalism from contemporary guitar music and drags it through the era of delta. The result is a dynamic blend of punk rock energy and skewed melodic blues.”

My kid singing the Batman theme.

Happy Halloween…love the holiday day even more now that I have a couple kids. The parties were fun in my 20s, but kids really bring the magic.

matt good performing

Matthew Good came to visit us at CFOX’s Ugly Grey Box Studio today. We chatted about the final song on his 2015 record Chaotic Neutral, “Los Alamos.”

Then he played it!

We’ll get a chance to see Matthew Good at The Vogue on November 13th and 14th.

brett glorious sons

Kingston’s The Glorious Sons are in Vancouver for a show at The Venue on Granville. Brett from The Glorious Sons stopped by to give us a preview on their next single, “Sometimes on a Sunday.”

Happy Friday! I’m back to Victoria this weekend for a DJ gig. And one of these days I’ll need to get my controller over in Vancouver for some practice. Looks like I’ll have a New Year’s Eve event to DJ! I’ve been really feeling the itch to DJ. Once I stop for a bit…but then when I do it all the time I just want to stop. Funny how that is eh?

This is glitchy weird….but I’ll tell ya, I put this new 12 song record up while at work yesterday and kinda forgot about it, it was great music to have on while click-clacking away in my studio.

Zyxz from London. He (they?) describe his music as “a chill-out vaporwave witch-house inspired electronica collection of music, ‘Delta Mornings’. The genre is a new style called sp3ct3rwave, it’s a brand-new combination of spectral-processing, punchy syn-percusson and beautiful-pop vocals with a uniquely Halloween/haunted-house/graveyard aesthetic. It’s like Grimes or ooOoO or ††† mixed with Aphex Twin(…).”

Zyxz website is so vintage.
