panama wedding
Brooklyn’s Panama Wedding are back with a new song called “Infinite High.” New record is Into Focus and comes out on November 6th on Glassnote.

“Living month to month on a credit card. And there’s never quite enough, just being who we are.”

Next band was sold to me as shades of Royal Blood or Foo Fighters. Since I believe anything a PR person tells me on an unsolicited email, I hit play. Band is Armchair Committee.

“the band grabs the aggression and experimentalism from contemporary guitar music and drags it through the era of delta. The result is a dynamic blend of punk rock energy and skewed melodic blues.”

My kid singing the Batman theme.

Happy Halloween…love the holiday day even more now that I have a couple kids. The parties were fun in my 20s, but kids really bring the magic.

brett glorious sons

Kingston’s The Glorious Sons are in Vancouver for a show at The Venue on Granville. Brett from The Glorious Sons stopped by to give us a preview on their next single, “Sometimes on a Sunday.”

Happy Friday! I’m back to Victoria this weekend for a DJ gig. And one of these days I’ll need to get my controller over in Vancouver for some practice. Looks like I’ll have a New Year’s Eve event to DJ! I’ve been really feeling the itch to DJ. Once I stop for a bit…but then when I do it all the time I just want to stop. Funny how that is eh?

This is glitchy weird….but I’ll tell ya, I put this new 12 song record up while at work yesterday and kinda forgot about it, it was great music to have on while click-clacking away in my studio.

Zyxz from London. He (they?) describe his music as “a chill-out vaporwave witch-house inspired electronica collection of music, ‘Delta Mornings’. The genre is a new style called sp3ct3rwave, it’s a brand-new combination of spectral-processing, punchy syn-percusson and beautiful-pop vocals with a uniquely Halloween/haunted-house/graveyard aesthetic. It’s like Grimes or ooOoO or ††† mixed with Aphex Twin(…).”

Zyxz website is so vintage.

We’ve been watching a ton of How To Get Away With Murder…Coral looked up a song used in a scene the other day. A dark, industrial, electronic sounding song. The artist was Ki:Theory.

I like my garage rock and I love JEFF The Brotherhood. Nashville bros Jake and Jamin Orrall are getting set to release a double record in November called Global Chakra Rhythms. First single is “Radiating Fibre Plane.” It’s a chill meandering guitar driven rock & roll song. Perfect for you fall drive playlist.

Hit What’s Up? Hot Dog! again this weekend with the family. Hot dogs, beers, pinball…and of course some good tunes blasting. This week The Muffs caught our ear.

Happy voting day tomorrow! Hope all my Canadian friends get out there and exercise some freedom!

My wife Coral and I just celebrated our 6th year wedding anniversary. We were able to leave our kids with Grandma & Grandpa and head off to the bush for a hike. We took the drive north from Vancouver to Joffre Lakes Provincial Park. It’s a good hour hike up a steep trail to the Middle Joffre Lake, but once you get there, you have this beautiful aquamarine lake, forests and glacier capped mountains. Another 30 minutes takes you to Upper Joffre. When you reach the top, it gets rocky and a little swampy but you emerge at the largesof the turquoise lakes. The wind rushes down from the peaks, over these primordial glaciers, across the lake, and whip you with a brisk chill.

We retreated back to the more sheltered Middle Joffre and enjoyed a coffee and the birds that land on tourists’ outreached hands.  Coffee was a good idea.

If you find yourself in Vancouver and have the time for a mountain adventure, head past Whistler, to Pemberton, and then about 30-minutes from there, toward Lillooet, you’ll find Joffre. It is a busy trail, there will be lots of folks. Took us about 3 hours to drive there from the suburbs of Vancouver. The drive did afford us some time to listen to music and we hit a few favourites, both new and old.

Coral put on an old playlist that we had forgot about and Volcano Choir’s “Byegone” came on. It felt like the perfect song after our hike.

We always love Bears Den…. leading up to, then reenforced at Squamish…. we love “Agape.”

I didn’t want to like Nathaniel Rateliff…but his new record is pretty fun.

Augustines popped on at one point. It rekindled my love of that band.

city and colour

City & Colour‘s fifth record, If I Should Go Before You, comes out on Friday (stream it here).

Dallas Green is in Vancouver, he opened for Neil Young on Monday, and made sometime for us at CFOX. He performed the  IISGBY song “Lover Come Back” and answered a few questions. We yapped Blue Jays, his love of varous genres of music and how that fuels the constant change of sound that is City & Colour, the bigger sound of the new album and how rad track one “Woman” is, rehashing old stories, making his best record, and finally the dark yet romantic sentiment behind the title and song “If I Should Go Before You.”

Last weekend, I went out to Abbotsford for a fresh hop beer fest. It was a pretty magical time. 20-degree October sunshine, my Mom and Dad and brother came. We drank little beers out of 4 ounce mugs. Fun times.

I’m getting old. It’s been 10 years plus since I was really into Coheed & Cambria. I used to love these guys.

I did fall off the bandwagon, but with what I’m hearing so far from their upcoming record, The Color Before The Sun, I am feeling like climbing back on.

Check out this interview in VICE then hit play on “Eraser.”

Let’s check out some modern rock from Los Angeles. The band is called Coast Modern and the song is “Hollow Life.”

Sounds like the style of radio modern rock coming from California these days.  Let’s have a listen.

and one more because it is weird and wonderful and came on Soundcloud after Coast Modern. Waterbed is the band.

Eating hotdogs with Coral and Jack before the Friday radio show…. the What’s Up? hotdog! on Hastings had some groovy music playing. A quick Shazam and bingo bongo Roberto Luongo, it is a Hardly Art band…because of course it is.

Shannon and the Clams from Oakland do up a fine vintage sounding garage punk.
