Noah Kahan as a Grammy nomination for best new artist, a date with Saturday Night Live on December 2nd, and a new duet with Gracie Abrams (also a Grammy nominated Best New Artist, neat).

Kahan has been re-releasing duets of songs from his 2022 album Stick Season. His latest teams up with Abrams who will be opening some stadium shows for Taylor Swift in 2024!

The song is called “Everywhere, Everything” and Kahan says, “Gracie puts her whole heart into every song she writes and note she sings, and I found myself completely swept into her world the first time I heard her. So incredibly excited for you all to hear her incredible take on ‘Everywhere, Everything.’”

Abrams adds, “I’m so honored that Noah asked me to join him on ‘Everywhere, Everything.’ I’m constantly in awe of the heart and sincerity behind each of his songs, and I feel crazy lucky for the opportunity to sing on one of my favorites. Noah really is the best, and I am simply a fan.”

I’m a fan too Gracie.

Kahan is having a time right now. He as recently on BBC 1 Live Lounge where he covered Olivia Rodrigo’s “lacy.”

Noah Kahan will be touring all over North America in 2024.

Machine Gun Kelly’s fifth album Tickets to my Downfallis coming September 25th (Interscope).

We’ve heard a couple jams so far including “Bloody Valentine” and “concert for aliens.” Today we’re checking out the third listen called “my ex’s best friend.”

The song features singer/songwriter/producer blackbear and the album is executive produced by Blink 182’s Travis Barker. Real good.

The song’s themes don’t stray too far from the title. The press release says, “here, MGK and blackbear gloomily ruminate about a messy entanglement with their exes’ closest confidant. Instead of wallowing in depression, the Ohio titan finds solace in his ex-lover’s best friend to rediscover love.”

Happy Friday. Go with yourself.

Aussie punks Stand Atlantic will release their sophomore album Pink Elephants tomorrow (Hopeless Records).

The band shared a new single today called “Blurry.” Today they shared a music video.

Lead singer Bonnie Fraser grew up with a musician father and started learning guitar at age 5. The advice her father shared with her sounds pretty funny now, via Kerrang!,  “Mostly he’d just tell me, ‘Don’t be in a band, you’ll do drugs and you’ll die.’”

The pop punk band’s new record is out tomorrow. NME likes it..I am sure I will too. I am interested in checking out the song called “Shh” which NME describes as ‘a giddy mashup of modern-day Fall Out Boy and Bring Me The Horizon’s pop-metal.’

Looks like I have something to listen to tomorrow morning at 4AM when I’m sitting in the radio studio writing.

Go with yourself.

Beabadoobee shared a second song off her upcoming Fake It Flowers album (October 16th, Dirty Hit). The song is called “Sorry” and leans into a vintage grunge sounding dream pop style.

Beabadoobee’s fame has skyrocket after the viral success of her confessional bedroom jam “Coffee” was remixed and sampled by Powfu and became a staple on TikTok. Bea Kristi, the London raised and based performer says that “Sorry” is a personal song; “confessing my mistakes in a friendship and watching someone who I love break down and fade away as a person. It’s the idea of dismissing something because it felt too close to home and a personal reminder to never take for granted what that person could have had.”

Being an older guy, I am loving the quiet/loud/quiet throwback to the 90s rock that I still enjoy.

“Sorry” follows up the first single “Care.”

I remember the first time I heard “Care.” I was surprised by the sound as my only contact with Beabadoobee had been that “Coffee” Death bed remix and it sounds quite different compared to her guitar driven music.

Victoria’s Mike Edel shared a brand new song today called “Go With You.”

Mike wrote about the song, I wanted to create an optimistic indie-pop anthem for 2018’s dwindling days of summer and beyond. I began working with producer Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie) after sending him demos while he was living north of the arctic circle in Norway. We quickly adopted a consistency is boring mantra with the new material.

“Go With You” is a song about change and vectoring forward into the unknown without regret. I love the synth lines and the hi-hat drums. It’s a departure for me, both sonically and rhythmically, and I’m very into it.”

black atlass
Ruth from Minnesota sent one from a “young Canadian artist” called Black Atlass.

The R&B singer rose to prominence when a song was used in a Louis Vuitton commercial or ad campaign. His second album just came out and is called Pain & Pleasure. I’ve only heard this one song “Shadows” so I don’t have a hot take on his music as a whole. But I love the chill retro sounding vibes of “Shadows.” I think it is a sad song, but it hurts so good.

I DJ’d an emo night at the Railway Stage & Beer Cafe in Vancouver last week. Almost zero people came which was mightily disappointing. Despite the horrendous turnout I must have done something marginally right because they want to try it again. If you find yourself in Vancouver on a Sunday in September, please come! OI need some bodies on the floor.

Pitchfork released their Top Rock Records of 2017…. different spin from years past but as the website continues to diversify from their indie rock leaning beginnings into all sort of genres, it’s kinda nice having an easier to digest list.

Top of the Pops for Pitchfork was London guy King Krule and his record The Ooz.

The song they selected to check out off the record is called “Dum Surfer.”

rise against

I’ve always liked Rise Against. The Chicago melodic punks have a new record out on June 9th called Wolves.

Tier 8th album took the band to Nashville to record. “Living in Nashville drove home that we can’t just focus on our differences,” Tim McIlrath says. “If we can stop and talk to each other, face to face, we might realize our common ground. We are all wolves in the same pack, circling at the gates.”

I went out with my boss from Match last night. Jason took me to some weird subterranean suburban bar. Possibly one of the finest dives in the Lower Mainland.

Happy Friday! See you tonight at Match Pub if you’re going out tonight. I DJ after 10PM till last call. Bangerang.

Go with yourself.
