reza

Fuuuuuuture bassssss…. I don’t really know what that is, but I’m a 36-year-old suburban white Dad DJ guy…shit almost 37, so I’m probably not hip to the square on that.Ruth form Minnesota tells me this is future bass, I’ll believe her.

Patrick Reza is the man. Here we go….to the future.

Here’s another time when I blogged a Patrick Reza cut.

The beautiful, crisp, sunny, cold winter days are supposed to end tonight….with snow. Good thing I stole a Jeep from the radio station. I have to DJ tonight at Match and it *might* start snowing before the end of my set.

gooch

The Gooch Palms are neat. Cheryl sent over the Newcastle, Australia band’s cover of the 90’s alt rock Much Mega Hit, “Tomorrow.”

The New South Wales band is from the same area as Silverchair and said growing up it was neat to see a band from their town dominate internationally.

“We were both big fans of Silverchair and it was so crazy seeing three kids from our hometown get so big all over the world and definitely lit a fire inside both of us
to give music a crack! So we played it live on that last Aussie tour and it went off
so after we got back from Europe we decided to pop into the studio and record it.”

Now, we just gotta do something about those Ducks and Rams jerseys. Rough.

It’s cold in Vancouver (by our standards) but sunny and bright! It’s actually kinda lovely.

unnamed

Happy New Year intrepid music blog reader! I hope you had a great Christmas holiday. Coral and I had fun spoiling our kids, visiting with both our families AND our son turned three.

My hours this week are little weird as I’m filling in on the morning show, but I wanted to share a brand new song that came down the pipe today…and really, just get back into the rhythm.

Vancouver band Said The Whale will be releasing their 5th album, As Long As Your Eyes Are Wide, on March 31st.

Said the Whale is a popular Canadian indie rock band, and they’ve been on modern rock radio on the West Coast for a bunch of years. US modern rock fans would maybe know the band for their 2013 song “I Love You.” I remember that because we road tripped down to California that summer and I punched up LIVE in San Francisco and there they were, pumping on my stereo!

The song “Step into Darkness” has mature lush sound. Reminds me of a Death Cab for Cutie song.

Had a chance to start my 2017 on the trail snow shoeing with my daughter. What a great beginning.

batman

Jack is obsessed with Batman. We’ve got in the habit of telling batman adventure stories before bed. The Black Batman, and Jack the Blue Batman team up to use a variety of Bat vehicles (Batmobile, Batboat, Batwing, Batbot, Batsubmarine) to track down villains like Joker, Penguin, Cat Woman and Scarecrow to find Grandma’s cookies, and put them in Jail. Here Jack is explaining where the jail is…. SPOILER: it’s behind the batcave.

velvateens

I was back in Victoria last week to visit some family and friends. On the last night I met up with my buddy Tyson and Leanne at Fifth Street. Dan Ball hosts a trivia night there on Tuesdays. Dan also works for Fierce Panda Records and sent me a song from a band he’s working called The Velveteins.

The band is from the Edmonton and have a new record out in 2017. But right now, we get this song.

That’s us (well mostly the youngest and kinda the reflection of my wife Coral and Madelyn) coming back from Victoria on the ferry.

Merry Christmas. Thank you for reading or checking my blog.

Merry Christmas intrepid music blog reader! I haven’t rapped at you in a bit….but hey, holidays. Probably won’t get back into the rhythm until 2017. But I am working today so I thought I could sneak a blog in. Maybe two. I used to be all about those year end lists…but I’d really be writing that for me, I don’t think too many people care.

Ryan Adams has a new record called Prisoner out in February of 2017. I heard a new share song today called “To Be Without You” and was enjoying the smooth acoustic vibes.

My wife and I watch that syrupy TV show This Is Us sometimes….and I can’t help but think about Mandy Moore when I hear a song like this. I don’t know if that’s fair or not, but here we are.

bonobo

Bonobo‘s new record, Migration, comes out on January 13th.

He released a music video for the second track called “Break Apart” (featuring Rhye).

This song is so cool.

jacob-banks

This one came down the pipe from a singer called Jacob Banks.

The tracks “features new production from the Futuristics and a verse from Boogie.”

And I don’t want to be a super cry baby….I get that people need to eat….but man, my Cloud Nothings tickets arrived for their show at the Biltmore in February. $50 for a pair of tickets to see an indie rock band. Nuts. The service charge was almost as much as buying a third ticket!

How many sleeps till Christmas? Getting close! Can’t wait. I have some Island time in the forecast, so looking forward to a little holiday and catching up with Victoria friends and family.

crx

The Strokes’ guitar player Nick Valensi was the last guy in the group to branch out into a side project called CRX. His group is named after the car that all the “cool kids” in my high school had.

Their style is something I think any Strokes fan could fall into. Jangly, upbeat, bratty, rock & roll.

The first single is called “Ways To Fake It.”

Their debut album, New Skin, was produced by Josh Homme. In their Rolling Stone review RS said, “Producer Josh Homme gives the album a humid garage-glam swagger especially when the tempos get dialed back.”
