teflon

This one came down the old information superhighway. New York producer Teflon Sega, and their tasteful pixilated nudey “Beretta Lake.”

Future soul? Alright.

san-holo

San Holo‘s “Lights” is a rising electronic dance song.

The Dutch DJ is doing pretty good an indie electro party rocker. “ “Light” has sold 2,000 downloads, according to Nielsen Music, since its Nov. 22 release … despite being available for free on his website.”

Ruth from Minnesota sent over this remix by WRLD.

Bright, blue skies, sunny, and cold in Vancouver this week! I wish I could say I had some fun plans, but mostly DJing into the weekend before starting a mini-holiday to Vancouver Island on Sunday.

Go with yourself.

menzingers
Philly punks The Menzingers will release their new record, After The Party, on February 3rd (Epitaph Records).

They sent over their new music video for the lead single “Lookers.”

High-energy and warmly nostalgic, “Lookers” finds the Menzingers paying tribute to their time spent in Asbury Park, weaving in images of smoke-filled diners and Jersey-girl heartbreakers.”

Black and White, live punk footage, tour van.

The Menzingers follow up album to 2014’s Rented World will also include a lot of mile son that tour van. No tour dates in the Pacific Northwest though. I get it….it rains here. I’d stay in California too.

2017 is shaping up to be a good year for rock & roll. So many albums I’m excited to hear as soon as the calendar changes over to January.

lash-djs

Lash DJs are a couple young producers from the Dominican Republic. Their remix of K. Flay’s “Blood in the Cut” came down my soundcloud feed and I had to hit play.

“Blood In The Cut” is currently the number one song on Canadian modern rock radio and one of the few rock jams I dare through into my DJ sets. This remix should offer me some greater opportunities to find a slot for it.

I’m throwing in this “We Don’t Talk Anymore” remix because it is pretty good, and has a bunch of spins…over a million on Soundcloud? That’s pretty good. Wait, that’s awesome.

***Oh bonus K. Flay remix****

DJ Boitano sent over his fave K Flay remix.

filous

Chill Christmas beats from 19-year-old Austrian producer filous. We’ll remember filous from his real nice Hollow Coves remix last fall.

On this track, “Let It Snow,” Matthais Oldofredi crafts a very subtle spin on the Christmas standard. The song delivers maximum chill for a frosty night. With the cold temperatures and Christmas vibes I’m experiencing in Vancouver right now, I love it.

Billboard describes the song “a beautiful, heart-wrenching song featuring vocals from Buster Moe alongside a knee-slapping beat and tons of harmonica.”

This song is going in my holiday set.

me-and-rick

My radio best friend Rick Lee has a vlog called Off-Air and the other day he invited me over to the Jack FM studios for an 8-Bit Rick segment. We played Blades of Steel and Rick won.

LA based producer Anevo sent over a song….pretty good. Have a listen!

snow-day

SNOW DAY! It rains a ton in Vancouver but it rarely snows…especially downtown which is right on the ocean. But today, we are getting a nice dusting.

I have a could remixes to share.

I DJ most every weekend at Match Pub in New West…Friday had a group of Pharmacists from Surrey partying and few wanted Indian music. I have a few songs but it is not a strength of my playlist. Some folks sent me a few requests and remixes like this beauty.

DJ Frenzy blasting a Bhangra style of popular Indian music with Bruno Mars “24K Magic.” I am getting to the point where I am also recognizes some of the Indian music in this mix. Neat.

Kygo…remixing one of the top songs out right now. You get it.

It feels like a long time ago now….and it probably was along time ago…but back in time, Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene was in Victoria and we thought it would be fun if we handed the radio over to him for an hour of vinyl record Disc Jockery. It was a cool hour and one song he played has stayed with me to this day and I still find excuses to play it (currently as a music bed at CFOX).

The band was called The Green Arrows and they are from Zimbabwe. I think he said he found the record while shopping on his tour in Winnipeg. (maybe I’m making that part up?)

This Wild Life blast out an uplifting style of nu-emo?… something like that. I read the band started out with a bit of a pop-punk sound.

They announced a tour of the West Coast to promote their third album, Low Tides, which came out back in September on Epitaph.

Their tour brings them through the Pacific Northwest in January.

Jan 11 Portland, OR – Mission Theater *
Jan 12 Spokane, WA – The Pin *
Jan 13 Vancouver, BC – Biltmore Cabaret
Jan 14 Seattle, WA – El Corazon *

Happy Friday!

lost-frequencies

Downtown today, I ran into my cousin Monica…that was random. I also heard this song I vaguely recognized.

It was a spin on 1993 “What Is Love” originally made famous by Haddaway! Belgian producer Lost Frequencies modernized the 90s dance track.

Maybe this fun throwback will help with all the grey rain today.
