paris

The Chainsmokers have new new emo-EDM cut for us called “Paris.”

Alex from the duo said, “We are really excited about this song because it feels like a really big step in our production and song writing. We tried to switch it up a bit and the song feels a lot more rhythmic and we pulled a lot of inspiration from bands we grew up loving.”

Jeeze, over 2 million views in a day and a bit? Chainsmokers are doing alright.

Did I post a picture of the birthday cake Coral and Madelyn made for me for my birthday?

Coral asked our toddler boy Jack what kind of cake I’d like and he said, “a blue cake! with chockit!”

Vancouver Industrial artist Jenny Kirby reached out to share her music with The Morning After Show.

She smashes out a classic industrial sounding music as Borg Queen.

Jenny is a one woman content producing machine! “She plays and records all the instruments and does the engineering and production. Each song has a corresponding painting done in large format acrylic on canvas. Borg Queen has evolved into an assimilation of all the different artistic mediums Jenny has trained and worked with professionally including, painting, animation, acting, set design, dance, musical theatre, production design and of course music. ”

Friend of the show Jason discovered this Brooklyn artist Pronoun and wanted me to have a listen.

Bouncy, romantic, whispery vocals.

highly-suspect

I first fired up Highly Suspect when I was looking at some Grammy nominations and saw their record on the list. The “hotboyz outta Brooklyn” were nominated for a couple awards last year…sadly, not winning. But hey, just getting recognized is something right? It got me to hit play on their record.

Their single, “My Name Is Human” from their 2016 album, The Boy Who Died Wolf, was a number one song on Mainstream Rock chart sin the US…and it’s climbing at modern rock.

I love the fierce political voice int he group…and the music reminds me a little of Middle Class Rut. All good things.

Vagrant Records sent an email today to say they are rereleasing three of Alkaline Trio‘s classic records.

The band released a string of records in the early-to-mid 2000s on Vagrant. Starting with 2001 From Here to Infirmery, Good Mourning and wrapping with 2005’s Crimson.

It was on a Vagrant music video compilation DVD where I first found out about Alkaline Trio.

The split colour presses are beautiful!

Norwegian ‘Scandi-pop’ duo Anna of The North (Anna Lotterud & Brady Daniell-Smith) have a beautiful music video for us today for their song “Oslo.”

Brady has never been to Oslo (or hadn’t at the time of writing the song) and was inspired seeing a picture  of the city. “I’d never been to Oslo. It seemed so untouched and really captured my imagination.”

They met some Norwegian friends in Australia and they were homesick so they mashed it out. “I met Anna soon after and we finished it together – she brought an authenticity to it that makes it feel like a love letter to the city.”

Since Vancouver has basically had to endure winter like a whole month, this video speaks to my heart.

me-at-match

The last few nights at Match have ended with rage parties of folks that want to hear some bhangra music. I am the whitest DJ alive, but slowly building a set for when the night needs to go there. Almost all the songs come to me by request from folks raging in Queensborough.

Last night a bro turned me on to Chicago DJs Twinbeatz. He had me play their remix of The Chainsmokers Much Mega Hit “Closer.” 3,2,1, BLAST OFF!

fistful

Happy Friday you beautiful angels.

Found this one on the Lagasta music blog. Dig it.

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs are cool. This remix is from High Clouds.

OK, not a remix….but I love this Chance The Rapper cut.

Right, not a fistful of remixes, more like some songs I’m feeling today. Bishop Briggs, she’s alright. Obsessed with “Be Your Love” right now.
