Road to Coachella: California pop rockers The Colourist

Coachella will be expanding minds in the California desert come April.  Maybe you’re going?  Must be nice.  If the festival isn’t literally blocks from my apartment and I can’t bring my kid, I don’t go.

I got an email today from a band out of Orange County (is that a town or a region?) that will be playing the festival.  They are called The Colourist.

Right away, I appreciate the proper spelling of colour.  I love the vocal from drummer Maya Tuttle tucked back there in the mix.  Their first single was “Wishing Wells” and now we get “Little Games.”

My favourite thing about festivals is exploring and experiencing new surprise bands.  I was THIS close to working out a trip to California this year.  I can just tell that if I was drinking that fine watered down American beer in a giant can (you know, if you made stronger beer, you could use smaller cans), and it was 30 degrees in the afternoon…I’d be so down with The Colourist.

This talk reminds me I was working on a Sasquatch 2013 Playlist for my mixcloud!  Coming soon friends. (probably next week)

Listen to the new Postal Service song, A Tattered Line of String

Happy Monday! A weekend of emails to answer on Monday morning brought many new song developments to share.  One f the more exciting ones, new music from Ben Gibbard’s (Death Cab for Cutie) Postal Service.

The song will be part of April’s ten year reissue of 2003’s Give Up.

The song once again taps female vocalist Jenny Lewis (Ril0 Kiley) for a contribution.

Death Cab goes on tour for the first time in ten years… beginning at Coachella and winding its way up to Sasquatch in May.

Capital Rock City #91 // Class of ’84, Dan Politano, Japandroids, Jets Overhead

CRC 91 begins with some new music.  A punky one from a band called Class of ’84 then Dan Politano sent a new recording over as well.  The second half of the show features a couple BC bands taking part in the Sasquatch! Music Festival in Washington State.  Vancouver’s fuzzy hyper-blogged about Japandroids and Victoria’s  ice cool and atmospheric Jets Overhead.  Neat-O gang.  Thank you for downloading my podcast.

I had trouble tracking down a website for them (turns out there is an Irish band with the same name).  Whatever, Myspace is not punk rock.  This picture IS punk rock.

Dan Politano, its been awhile friendo.  After the punk, we calm it down for another alt-lite from the Sidney, VI rocker (are you from Sidney Dan?).

Today (or I guess yesterday) the Ear Candy blogged leaked the Sasquatch festival line-up.  Today it was official so I thought I’d include a couple CRC darlings to end the podcast.

Japandroids are Terminal Rock City’s fuzz heroes and one of THE MOST BLOGGED ABOUT BANDS!  Whoa, I iz helper them.

“Art Czars” is part of the Japandroids 2010 7″ singles series.

Czars totally sucked… but I think history will judge Soviet Russia as worse… so….

They *might* also be talking about the village in Alberta… which would be mighty, but doubtful.  (hmmm, now I kinda want to go there.)

This tight little podcast ends with Victoria journeymen (and women) group, Jets Overhead.  Jets rocked the Bonnaroo last year, Coachella later and now Sasquatch in May!  Our growing little army of Island invaders will all need to make a date to converge at whatever stage they are at when they play and burn one down for them.  So great.

Thank you for rocking the Zone and for choosing my podcast.  You totally rule and Russian Czars totally suck (but they suck less than Soviet Communism!  COLD WAR WIN!)
