Brandon and Brody from the Evergreen State invited me on their Vodcast Throwing Lemons for a Q&A.

We talk about all sorts of fun things like Grey’s Anatomy, Gossip Girl, Friday Night Lights (ok we talk about TV shows a bunch), Vanilla Pepsi, Pol Plastino, Coldplay vs. Radiohead vs. Oasis, Politics, some radio broadcasting slips in there… good times.

A the five minute mark Brandon says, “OK, final question”… and then the tape rolls like 7 more minutes, so good times.

The boys will post the video of the show on their site later tonight, but if you have the time and/or care, here is the audio from the interview.

Coral and I punched through season one of Friday Night Lights over the weekend.  Yeah, we have a minor obsession.

Nothing like a gorgeous soap opera of pretty kids, great music and football to waste away a lazy weekend.  Now we’re in the hunt for season two. (we’ve been watching season three on TV every week)

“Devil Town” is the song they play at the end of season one when the team is having a parade through Dillon after the final game.  At first I had a little bit of challenge drawing parallels of the lyrics to the scene, but I think my brain was tired last night when we watched it because today it is wickedly clear what  the song is talking about and how it applies to the people of Dillon.

It is amazing how hearing a song used in a particular context can make the song stand out.  The original is ancient (well 80s I think, not ANCIENT) and the song has been used in soundtracks and commercials before… but after watching an entire season of FNL and then hearing the song play at the end of all that, late at night, made the song sear into my head.  I’ve been singing it all day.

The show plays a version of the song by Tony Lucca, but I downloaded an interpretation performed by Bright Eyes (posted above).  Originally the song is from the man Daniel Johnston.

Its just a trailer, but I love how this documentary is shot.

I love the colours of the graphics, I love how they tie into all the graphics and colours of the band.  I love the sounds, I love the images.  Its just a trailer and I watch it over and over.  I would have bought the video right now if it was on iTunes but thankfully ( I am so broke and should leave my credit card in the wallet) it was not!

“One day I’ll get money, I’ll get funny again.”

The first 15 seconds or so of The National’s “All The Wine” sounds like the score music of Friday Night Lights.  Being an old and busted Dad type guy means I spend a lot of Friday nights at home and lately I am all about that show.  The musical score makes the hour pretty special.

Turns out a lot of the score is from the group Explosions in the Sky which oddly, has become a recent fave of mine… no wonder I was picking up on the musical score of the show.

Neat.  They refer to their music as “cathartic mini-symphonies.”  Cathartic, good word.

I know Huckdoll is a big fan of Friday Night Lights… but I don’t think its for the music.
