Vancouver rockers Head of the Herd stopped by CFOX to talk about their new record, Birds of the Roof (out September 25th) and the second single “All The Way.” The song was recorded near Vancouver on a farm and produced by Garth Richardson. It soars.

Happy Friday!

Neu and Clay from Head of the Herd on CFOX talking their new record ‘Birds on the Roof’ (peacocks in Wales?) out on September 25th. Using Radiohead’s OK Computer era drumkit, and recording the new single “Live For Love” in Georgia at the Black Keys’ ‘Brother’ era studio. From their press release Clay said;  “Brothers was a record that pushed me to become a musician. It was a record we listened to obsessively when it came out and in many ways inspired the direction of our own band. So, to be able to journey down to the southern USA and work with the man who produced that record was an honour and I’ll never forget the experience. Mark forced us to think about the songs in ways we never imagined and by doing so brought out the best in them.”

They haven’t set the song up for blogging, but you can listen to it here.

Pre-order the new album and receive the single “Live For Love.” Nice.

Go with yourself.

Back to the blogging grind after letting the MAS blog fall fallow for a bit. Right now I want to share a few songs from my radio show (and I might have some more for you tomorrow from Tokyo Police Club and Said The Whale).

On Wednesday, Sam Roberts stopped by The Zone in front of his show at The Q Centre. Weirdly…K-Os also happened to be in Victoria…so he stopped by too.

The Sam Roberts Band performed a couple songs.

Cool. I really enjoyed that “Shapeshifters” cut.  Track one from his 2014 album, Lo-Fantasy.

Today I was fortunate to have Vancouver’s Head of the Herd on the show.  They performed their single “We Could Get Together.”

Wow. I am about one week and one day from my first ever boxing match! The Fight 4 The Cause Charity Boxing Classic is happening on Saturday, November 22nd at The Empress. I’ve been training every morning at 6AM for 7 weeks…one more week of boxing bootcamp and then its game time. To get this party started… Team Zone joined me to create a video that will play before my fight.

Dylan and Jason hopped into the Zone studio with Sheldon to record a cover of DJ Khaled’s “All I Do Is Win.” Then we all went down to the VIC 42 studio with Webmeister Bud to film a “corporate” video. Here we go.

And no one has asked me…but you know…just in case…our cover song is a free download.

And lastly… a short clip from my radio show today. Talking about the Rosetta Spacecraft, the comet landing and the eerie sound the lander recorded.

Go with yourself.

I
heard it on the radio…a few sounds from the Zone @ 91-3 today.

Vancouver’s Head of the Herd came to Victoria today for a sold-out show at Lucky Bar.  I am home with a new baby so I am off the warpath for awhile…but luckily Head of the Herd came to me and performed their song “By This Time Tomorrow” on the show.

Mike Devlin over at the Times Colonist had a great interview with the band. Have a read.

Friday Night is a busy one in Victoria.  Local beauty Vince Vaccaro also had a show.  VV’s new record is called Koa and is a collection of ukulele songs.

Vince performed the song “Here in My Place” (and I really ought to post that live cut… but while sound checking I asked him to riff a bear story into a song.

What?  Mike Devlin ALSO interviewed VV.  Have a read right here.

Finally….listening to Dylan and Jason on The Morning Zone, they were talking about Steve Martin coming to Victoria and performing at The Royal Theatre, May 12th.

Jason is obsessed with the man. But how obsessed?  Dylan goes back to 2009…

Go with yourself.

by this time tomorrow

Vancouver blues-rockers Head of The Herd sent a new single to radio today.

The Rain City duo ht the studio with Ggggarth Richardson, noted for being a West Coast leafs fan (gross), and the man who produced the first Rage Against The Machine record (plus about a billion other modern hard rocking beauties).

Head of the Herd enlisted friend-of-the-show Jasmin Parkin of Mother Mother to duet on this cut, the title track for their upcoming album, By This Time Tomorrow (June 4th, RMP/Indie).

Quality jam… I love it.
