A new song and a remix from two monster Modern Rockers.

Kings of Leon have a new record on September 24th called Mechanical Bull.  We’ve heard the first feature called “Supersoaker.”  Now we get a little bit of a change-up.  The slow jam called “Wait For Me.”  IndieShuffle kinda liked it…but preferred “Supersoaker.”

Is the song about Caleb’s time in rehab?  Will she? wait for him?  I dunno… Marcus Mumford would….

I was DJing a wedding the other night and at the end of the party I dropped “I Will Wait.”  People went crazy.  Good times.

Here is a simple yet effective remix.  Chromemusic called it “beautiful.”  This song is by no means a banger, but it does lay a propulsive beat behind the Much Mega Hit.

Wait for me?  I will wait.

A Victoria music collective has got together for a chilling, light-electro cover of Mumford & Sons.

The group is called The Raven… this single leans heavily on the female vocals of Steph MacPherson, with production from Brandon DeLyzer and the studio/mastering talents of Joby Baker.  The credits for The Raven Collaborative are mostly suedo-names I think…. it reads:

Featuring Petit-Loup, Snakebite, Lunawolf, Remington, Cinder, And The Raven.
Produced by Brandon DeLyzer
Mastered by Joby Baker

Whatever, lets just get to the song.

Such a pretty take.  Great video too.

Great job team!

Woke up this morning feeling generally overwhelmed.  Not a good feeling at all.  I get that vibe after I play too much video games.  Its the worst time suck that accomplishes little (though my Dutch colonies on Greenland are very profitable).

My buddy Bob told me about this game called Rocksmith that lets you play an actual guitar on the Xbox and gets you learning and rocking.  That sounds better…. though I should really work on dusting off my Maschine. I was working through some tutorials but then just stopped and I tucked it in a drawer.

Getting bogged down.  Brain power is low, energy is low.  So much work and projects that need attention.  It didn’t help that sleep crept up on me last night and I crashed hard.  Had to play catch up this morning.  The one thing I really wanted to do was put together a mix of songs Coral found.  We downloaded a bunch, but I fell asleep before I could craft a podcast.  So… coming soon?

Did roll into the Zone to some fine music.  Mumford & Sons… the band single handily responsible for bringing Depression chic back popped into the BBC 1 for a live performance.   BBC shows always seem to showcase a cover which I love.  Mumford & Sons tackle a jam from the British hipsters Alt J.

Cool song.  I think they’re singing about a movie, but I get a Mexican Standoff vibe.

I got an email the other day from some mucky muck working for Ghostkick. The duo reworked the massive massive from Phoenix, “1901.”  This song has good propulsive energy for your running, workout of dance floor mix.

Another remix that snuck up on me was this beauty by Work Drugs.  He but a nice spin Bon Iver’s “Beth/Rest.”

I’ll be working on a lot of these songs during my set Friday night at Veneto.  Maybe I’ll see you there?

I wanted to share a few videos I came across this week and talked about on the radio.  Then if you care, you can watch them.

The first one is a promo for a new documentary coming out called One Nine Nine Four.  It is a movie about the California punk thing of the mid-90s.  Being a child of the 90s, it is all about the music I used to listen to all the time.  Lots of Offspring, Green Day, Rancid, Pennywise, Bad Religion… all that good stuff.

Next up is a school choir singing a Phoenix song a la Langley School Kids Music Project style. Super cute.

The final video comes from the UK where current Zoner buzz band Mumford and Sons jammed out a cover of Vampire Weekend’s “Cousins” for the BBC.

That’s all I got for a Friday.  Happy weekend.  I’ll be DJing tonight & Saturday at The Veneto Lounge in the Rialto Hotel on Douglas at Pandora.  Come see me if you’re going out drinking this weekend downtown.

Go with yourself.
