Manchester UK alt-popper The 1975 gave us a new song today. And one of the remarkable things about the track is the opening line! My wife Coral punched it up first thing this morning and went, “wow, the song comes out swinging.”

Arkells tweeted about the song today.

The song is second track form the upcoming third album, A Brief History Into Online Relationships.

Enough with the hype, is the song any good? Let’s hit play.

We live in the suburbs and the other day I saw some print of the suburb we live in! So I bought it.

Alkaline Trio – Press Photo – Credit Jon Weiner

I love Alkaline Trio. One of my faves. The Chi-town power punk trio shared a new song today called “Blackbird.” New record comes out out on August 31st (Epitaph) and is called Is This Thing Cursed? This will be the band’s 9th album and their first in 5 years. Dig into that!

Co-lead vocalist and guitarist Matt Skiba notes, “Some people thought we were done. We announced a tour and a lot of the shows are already sold out. Nobody knows that we made a new record. It’s not unlike getting somebody that you care about something extra super special for their birthday and you’re really excited to give it to them. It feels kind of like that.”

Band is going on tour…and what else is new…no Vancouver shows. Bands hate Vancouver. That’s fine, Vancouver hates bands!

In the great PNW!

Oct 08 Portland, OR – Crystal Ballroom
Oct 09 Seattle, WA – Showbox SoDo

My brother’s kids are staying at our place this summer for a little grandma and grandpa time and playing with my kids. Here’s apicture of our youngest Elliot enjoying a rest with Grandpa from the other day. It’s been HOT in Vancouver, so they went to the spray park.

Scottish rockers We Were Promised Jetpacks shared a brand new song today in front of news of a record. Their first in four years.

The song they shared is called “Hanging In” and it will be part of September 14th’s The More I Sleep the Less I Dream.

The album is so much about us going back to our basics and relying on our instincts.” Mike Palmer says. “There’s a range of songs that span everything we do as a band, and we’re the connection between them. It feels like this album is us.”

The band will be repping a bunch of shows in the Pacific Northwest but sadly…no Vancouver date. Brutal.

10.03 – Seattle, WA @ Neumos
10.04 – Portland, OR @ Wonder Ballroom
10.05 – Bellingham, WA @ The Wild Buffalo

black atlass
Ruth from Minnesota sent one from a “young Canadian artist” called Black Atlass.

The R&B singer rose to prominence when a song was used in a Louis Vuitton commercial or ad campaign. His second album just came out and is called Pain & Pleasure. I’ve only heard this one song “Shadows” so I don’t have a hot take on his music as a whole. But I love the chill retro sounding vibes of “Shadows.” I think it is a sad song, but it hurts so good.

I DJ’d an emo night at the Railway Stage & Beer Cafe in Vancouver last week. Almost zero people came which was mightily disappointing. Despite the horrendous turnout I must have done something marginally right because they want to try it again. If you find yourself in Vancouver on a Sunday in September, please come! OI need some bodies on the floor.

Man, July…I gotta blog more. I feel like I start every monthly blog post with that. maybe one day I’ll get back to that almost daily rhythm. But hear me out…life is busy. And this blog doesn’t pay me for my time…wait I lose money every year on this thing.

What do I got for you today? How about this collab from Kingdom & Zalma Bour.

Been busy and managed  alittle time off. The family went to Helmcken Falls in Wells Gray Provincial park. About 470 kms north-east from Vancouver. Awesome. But BUGGY!

And we did the tourist in our hometown thing and went out to Steveston. Ate some unreal BBQ, iced coffees, playgrounds, visiting an old train car, screamers, then learned about fish canneries.

We’re staring a long weekend right in the face. It’s Canada Day in the great white north and the forecast calls for …. rain? WTF Vancouver?

Medasin shared his remix of the Khalid & Normani song “Love Lies.” If the twitter is to be believed, Khalid loves it!

My first spin of Mickey Kojak’s “get Out” I didn’t like it. But I gave it another chance and now it is stuck in my head. Catchy jingle.

Took my kids camping LAST weekend.

While up at the campsite there were two other families. On eof the Dads was telling me Manning Park’s heather trail is the place to check out so this weekend we’ll scout it out. Maybe a future camping trip. Or I’ll try to get a spot at Cheakamus in Garibaldi Park.

I hope it doesn’t rain too much on Saturday!

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever

Melbourne three-headed singing monster band Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever released their debut Sub Pop record today, Hope Downs.

Continuing to channel the “it’s summer and the livin’s easy” vibes, Rolling Blackouts give ten jangly guitar driven tracks. Every song is a beauty.

Do you have a favourite? They’re ALL my favourite.

Looks like I’ll need to take a Friday off at Match at the end of August!

Fri. Aug. 31 – Vancouver, BC@ Fox Cabaret

Father’s Day is this weekend and the sun is finally back in Vancouver! Talk at my house of a return to the Othello Tunnels and my wife talked about hitting a brewery tasting room in Abbotsford. Somewhere in there I’ll need to hit a MEC to get one more backpacking sleeping pad. Going to try to carve out the time to take Madelyn camping AND Jack. You know RBCF will be soundtracking the adventures.

coheed

Coheed and Cambria released their latest sci-fi prog rocker, “The Dark Sentencer.” It’s seven minutes and 45-ish seconds of Coheed shred action. Add a couple more minutes for that prologue.

The Prologue sets the scene. A narrator talks about an Earth almost destroyed by a cataclysmic cosmic event. A romance between a pair of unheavenly creatures. The five houses of the star supremacy. A great crash!

Here we go!

It begins with them but it ends with me…their son…Vaxus!

Happy Friday!

touch the sky

Heading into another perfect May weekend (a long one for our friends in the US…and a long one for me because I took Monday off) and I have fun remix to bump.

Two Friends sent over their take on Kanye West’s 2006 song “Touch The Sky.”

Couple plugs if I may…you guys are always asking me for things…now I’ll ask you for two little things.

One! I have a craft beer show. Me and my buddy Jello go out to the fine craft beer tasting rooms in Vancouver and film it. I’d love if you took the time to give us a view (or a thumbs up or a positive comment…whatever you have time for).

TWO!

Hosting some weekly trivia at a pub in Burnaby (might be adding a second night in New Westminster…stay tuned.)

I made an instagram account for the event, but we have so few followers. Can you throw me a follow?

I love you! Have a great weekend.

Go with yourself.
