meet the foetus
Lots to listen to today. Lets go!

We begins with a heads up from Vancityrockgirl…. new Brody Dalle solo stuff.

Brody Dalle’s first taste of solo stuff after a break to be a Mom.  The song has a driving, churning, buzz saw guitar thing going on.  Beautiful vocals that get some help from Garbage’s Shirley Manson and Emily Kokal.

Being a parent, love the lyrics.

neck deep
I was trolling on Caroline’s website… and saw the above promo pick for a pop-punk band out of Wales (but man, don’t they sound like every American band circa 2005?).  The group is called Neck Deep.  Anyway, good hockey shirt, I clicked play.

I couldn’t find a decent stream of anything new, but they have some Youtubes.

***

Also outta the UK… a band Jon Williams is bullish on… Royal Blood!  saw they had a spin on the mighty KROQ! Neat.

****

Garage punk?  You know I love it!

Together PANGEA is the band… new record is called Badillac.

Watch the NSFW music video! Well, I guess it depends where you work, I’m at a radio station…

Bastille, so hot right now. New song is the title cut off their record Bad Blood, and its screaming up the charts in Amurika and here in Canada.

Augustines are cool.  I loved, LOVED, their song “Headlong into the Abyss.”  Now we got some new stuff….  the record, simply titled Augustines, came out last Tuesday.  We’ll send this one out to my girl Justine in Australia for reminding me Augustines are BACK!

I think that’s all I got… we’ll see how the day shapes up.  There is a lot of music out there and they all want you to hear it!

Go with yourself.

current swell
I punched onto Facebook to see if anyone knew where I could have a beach fire near town… and I’m glad I did because Current Swell just posted their first new song off their upcoming record.  The song is called “Rollin’.”

First listen… already love it.

Ferris quote
Woke up this morning at a weird hour.  I had a hard time sleeping.  Maybe too much anxiety?  I was supposed to go camping this weekend, but that fell apart…which is for the best.  I underestimated or did not fully appreciate the amount of work a newborn would be…which is funny, because its my second.

On top of that, Boitano has been away with his second and this past week has felt like a blur.  Camping would have been nice, but being away would be a challenge.  I do need that biophelia so a day hike with the family would be good.

I got a call from Ditch Records last night…. Haim’s record Days Are Gone is back in stock, so we’ll take the trip downtown this weekend to pick it up.  Here’s a remix of the new single “Forever.”

Have a good weekend.

Meg Meyers
The beautiful Meg Myers went out and wrote a theme song for my blog.  Have a listen to “The Morning After”  over at SPIN.

Victoria’s JP Maurice returned to Victoria for a show last night. He stopped by the Radio Factory for a live performance of his song “The other one” from his record the Arborist.

polar bears
I seriously hit play on Penguins Kill Polar Bears solely because of their band name.

Band is form Scotland.
Debut record, Building Homes From Broken Bones, is out on April 7th.
KEXP likes them.

Also I disagree… a polar bear would fuck up a penguin.  Go Canada!

cordova bay
Its been cold but perfect on Vancouver Island the last couple days.  Now they’re saying snow by Monday?  I could use a snow day.

I was reading the Lefsetz Letter today, and he was tlaking about London Grammer. He’s a fan… but I clicked the link on an article that he reads… New Music for Old People.  That’s a thing?  Yup… and the playlist the old codger puts together was a pretty interesting set.

The song I dug was a cover of the Hall & Oates hit “Maneater.”  (or was that a Nelly Furtado hit?)

The artist is a young girl (14 or 15?) from Oregon named Grace Mitchell.  her cover showed up on the soundtrack to the film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Also… Coral used to LOVE that Nelly Furtado song when I first met her.  True story.

Another pick from New Music For Old PeopleCapital Cities on the list… disco-NEAT!

I like the idea and the chorus of the song… but it isn’t turning my crank with the energy or vibe.

Coral was in the tub last night, Maddy was playing her room… so me and Jack had the turntable to ourselves.  He wanted to hear FIDLAR… then I put up The Rural Alberta Advantage.   Pretty straight forward jangly indie rock sound you’d expect from a Canadian band circa 2008.  Still love their album Hometowns.

This is my jam… Edmonton is just a four night ride into town!

And here is Jack’s pick… but don’t mind him, he’s only one-month-old.

I like you Chevelle. Over the years of mainstream radio rock DJery…I’ve always had a spot in my heart for Chevelle.   New record is La Gargola and its out on April 1st.  APRIL FOOLS! BWAHAHAHA, but no seriously, new record.

Jiving on Beck’s “Blue Moon”

Eadfrith
When does the new Beck record come out?  I think I am pretty excited for it.  I have been enjoying the new single “Blue Moon.”

NPR’s All Songs Considered has some insight….

New music from The Balconies

balconies fast motions
The Balconies from Toronto, Ontario, Canada have released their second album, Fast Motions (on purple vinyl no less)…

The classic rock inspired rippers headed to the Sunset Strip… well, California somewhere, to record their new record.  The feature song is a ripper called “Boys and Girls.” I hope your speakers go to 11, because this song wails one more than 10.

slam dunk
There is a lot of excitement ’round these parts for the Squamish Valley Music Festival going down August, 8th, 9th and 10th in… Squamish, BC! Tickets on sale next Friday for close to $300!

Line up looks special, highlights include Arcade Fire, Bruno Mars, Eminem… and then a pretty good slice of what’s new and hot. As always seems to be the case with summer festivals, I’ll be DJing a wedding that weekend in Victoria, BUT maybe my better and prettier half will get a chance to go!

Lots of great local and local-ish acts including a band from Victoria, that to be honest, I am not overly familiar with. A friend of the show from Boston asked me about them awhile ago.  So I found out about this local band from a dude in Boston, huh.

The group is Slam Dunk.  Check out this song!

I feel like an idiot for not being more into these guys earlier.  So good. Like a frantic, weirder Modest Mouse.

Go with yourself.

Australian singer Vance Joy had his song “Riptide” voted the number one song on Triple J’s Top 100 this year. And the first #1 on the Hottest 100 to be written on a ukulele?  Neat.

Time for a remix… Enter Sun City.

Mr. Vance Joy did visit us at Rifflandia last summer… and he’ll be back for a pair of shows in Vancouver in support of Young The Giant on April 2nd and 3rd.

Go with yourself.
