snow-day

SNOW DAY! It rains a ton in Vancouver but it rarely snows…especially downtown which is right on the ocean. But today, we are getting a nice dusting.

I have a could remixes to share.

I DJ most every weekend at Match Pub in New West…Friday had a group of Pharmacists from Surrey partying and few wanted Indian music. I have a few songs but it is not a strength of my playlist. Some folks sent me a few requests and remixes like this beauty.

DJ Frenzy blasting a Bhangra style of popular Indian music with Bruno Mars “24K Magic.” I am getting to the point where I am also recognizes some of the Indian music in this mix. Neat.

Kygo…remixing one of the top songs out right now. You get it.

fistful

Happy Friday! I’m in good spirits heading into the weeknd. Canucks remain undefeated to start the season, WHAT? Might be taking my kid to the theme park for Fright Nights at the PNE! And The Boxer Rebellion is at the Biltmore Sunday night. Finally, my wife said we have a weekend of sorting out bins of surplus junk that needs to be donated or thrown out. Can’t wait.

Here’s a few remixes making the mix this weekend at Match.

Journey: we’ll still believin’!

Here’s a Phil Collins remix that is pretty fun. Heavy on the sax. Doesn’t hit you over the head with the original classic jammer, but it’s in the mix. I played this last night and people were trying to Shazam it and asking, ‘what is this?”

Another oldie… theme this week. Fetty Wap’s breakthrough mainstream hit gets a tropical polish. Is tropical still I thing? I like it…but I’m also a 36-year-old Dad guy….so…right.

THIS GUY! Ugh. Great remix of The Weeknd’s “Starboy” but if you click for the download it takes you on this Hobbit adventure. I gave up part way. if I care a ton, I’ll just rip it. Still, great remix.

Bonus remix! DJ Primitive posted this beauty. Funky.

I was reading about Motorhead’s new line of sex toys.

Neat. But while reading about them, I came across this most excellent cover of “Sympathy For The Devil” by Lemmy & Co.

I did this radio bit many moons ago where I pretended to pee in Jon Williams’ tea mug…and with pissing in mugs being red hot in the news right now I was trying to find it. I guess the signal was lost to the noise on the FM radio all those moons ago and I didn’t save it.

But my journeys reminded me of a couple great cover songs. I LOVE this Kings of Leon cover of Robyn’s “Dancing on My Own.”

And Jesse Roper’s Stevie Ray Vaughn is also super cool.

Finally…how about Titus Andronicus’ cover of The Weeknd? Dig it!

Happy Tuesday that feels like a Monday. Also first day of school. Took my daughter to her first day of grade two. I moved back to the city I grew up in…and my kid is going to the same elementary school I went to. What a trip.

catching Fire
The premiere of the second Hunger Games film Catching Fire is tonight at Silvercity Tillicum.  The film promises to be one those Hollywood Blockbusters that everyone is lining up to see.

The soundtrack for thefilm  is an interesting mix of pop and modern rock heavy weights.  Coldplay, Christina Aguilera, Ellie Goulding and Lorde sharing disc-space with The Lumineers, The National, Imagine Dragons and Patti Smith?  Sure.

Digital Spy said the best song on the soundtrack is Sia’s “Elastic Heart.” The song  features the sounds of Canadian R&B star The Weeknd.

Let’s have  a listen to a few of the contributions from Zone bands….

And here is that Lorde cover of Tears for Fears that some people love and some people pan.
