love blind
Matt Zanardo‘s “Love Blind” is so chill. A lot of Matt’s productions are high energy, club pleasers, and fist pumper throwbacks… this one is different. What do they call it? Deeeeeeep House? I dig it.

Not sure if I’ll be able to work this cut from the Toronto producer into my set tonight at The Clubhouse…but maybe as I’m getting set and people are still watching sports highlights and catching up with friends over a pint and some wings.

black and white
Black & White Visions tweeted a couple songs at me. The LA by way of Nashville (?) singer creates an R&B-tinged form of dark-pop. Minimal electronic beats and snaps. Vocals that lean heavy on the reverb. The sounds are pretty chill.

kendrick lamar cover

The internet has gone DEFCON 1 today. New Kendrick Lamar single called “I.” Its a positive, uplifting jammer. Wait…what song is that dude sampling?

But when is the new record coming out? Pitchfork says maybe not this year. He is working hard on it… talking to Rolling Stone he says that he lives in the studio; “I’m definitely a studio rat. I can go in the booth and do it all day, every day (…) Sometimes I go into the studio and study music. Just sit in there and vibe out to music that’s not really of the — Marvin Gaye or something like that… I haven’t been listening to a lot of the music that’s out right now. You can get influenced by it.”

I love hockey so much. First pre-season match last night… Canucks looked good vs the Sharks. Can’t wait for October!

Woke up to this fine cover from Ben Howard. The British singer/songerwriter type was in the BBC 1 Live Lounge and put down a version of Kiesza’s “Hideaway.”

anna of the north
“On top, such a beautiful view”

The Chainsmokers of NYC sent over their remix of Norwegian singer Anna of The North’s “Sway.”

Pigeons and Planes says, “Her music is electronically-tinged indie pop, but unlike so much of the music in that style, it avoids being too bubbly or trying too hard to be futuristic.”

I like Chainsmokers’ remixes of indie pop…they don’t go too over-the-top and puke put some weird fist banger.

Alex and Drew chose to remix Anna of The North because, “Anna of the North is this new artist who is so badass. She has an incredible voice, is incredibly cool and when we heard her original song SWAY… it just glowed… if a song was every incandescent it would be SWAY…  She is pretty new and has some cool attention but it just getting go!”

“Just move with me darling, and I’m gunna move with you too.”

sir sly
I am loving the new Sir Sly record, You Haunt Me.

Their song “Inferno” features Lizzy Plapinger of MS MR fame.

Have a read of this interview they did with Billboard then hit play on “Inferno.”

prettyflyvintage
Massive club banger remix of the Offspring modern rock hit “Pretty Fly (for a white guy).”

Matt Zanardo takes us all back to high-school. (Well, takes me back to that awkward time after high school but before I had found any direction in life.) The song has a big Las Vegas style of electro houseness to it.

Before I take off for the weekend…I’ll leave you with a clip from my radio show. The Morning Zone was beeking off about Mexican food while I was driving in to boxing for my morning workout. Jason implied that Mexican food makes you fart…. but it doesn’t make me gassy…huh. I better get some experts on the show to ask them about Mexican Food.

Josef Salvat

Josef Salvat is an Australian singer based out of London currently. The first single from the Canberra native is called “Open Season” and serves to hype his new EP Your Prime (September 22nd / Columbia Records). A full LP is due in 2015.

Josef says on twitter, “in your prime, you have to fuck where you fit and do what you want.” I don’t know what that means exactly, but I’m glad he said it!

“I believe in you, I know you believe in me too. We’re in this game together.”

tropical Dragons
Norwegian producer Matoma puts a sparkly tropical polish on the alternative anthem “It’s Time” from arena filling Imagine Dragons.

I personally enjoy the tropical chill trend right now…so I could keep riding this sonic wave for a bit.

The song is remarkable for me because it had me stop my work to look back at what I was listening to. And I love when that happens.

Olivver creates a dark, moody, melodic style of electronic-infused alternative. I think I read somewhere the dude is the former drummer for The Neighbourhood?  Keeps it light and bright in the bio department…let’s get to the song.

From his EP Freak, this is “Not Going Home.” Music Ninja LOVED it… and he/she is a ninja…so that says something.
