Krisp

Consequence of Sound featured a new chillwave song and I had to check it out.

The band is from Miami and they are called Krisp.

The song is mellow, light boogy, tropically tinged chillwaver.

Their new record is called Sonic Monarch and comes out in January.

Thinking of holidays in Vancouver between the winter rain storms. Nice.

Some Saturday morning chill out from the Paris producer Louie Louie.  It’s been awhile since I featured one of his hazy tracks, a remix of Tourist’s “Your Girl.”

He now recorded a song with his band Fevrier. Its a partnership with ilodepancrate.

Go with yourself. (and maybe throw the blog a “like” on Facebook?)

Feeling tired today.  Its been weighing on me most the summer. Most the time, I get a surge and can rise up; but then this week, the energy is just not there.  Getting that vibe that something needs to change, or that I need to punch up “It All Feels Right.”  And believe it!

When I was in Ditch the other day… I saw the new Washed Out record on the shelf… damn, I should have bought it too! “It All Feels Right” is such a pretty song.  They had a poster for a Washed Out show in Victoria.  September 2nd at Club 9one9

My hiking pants are tumbling in the dryer…though I don’t really see the point as it looks like my hike at Gowlland Tod will be in the rain.  Sipping a coffee and checking some emails while I wait for adventure and I punched up a song that came from Perth, Western Australia. Probably less rain there.

The group is called Water Graves and they describe their music as “lo-fi textures combined with watery synth and dreamy harmonies.”  Sounds like my kind of chillwave for a rainy weekend in the forest kingdom of Victoria.  Debut ep is out later this year.  Until then…

I think my pants are getting pretty close to dry.  Time to hit Red Barn for a sandwich to pack and then a muddy trail.  See you tonight at Veneto (I am DJing a Saturday for a change).

Go with yourself.

You can’t help it when you listen to chillwave… you think the beach.  Even if you live on an Island adrift in a cold Pacific sea… people still hit the waves.  Coral is just driving home from Tofino right now and took this picture yesterday of some brave adventurers enjoying the ferocity of the Ocean.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are an indie hipster band out of NYC.   Their music is pleasant for sure… but what I am really feeling today is music from their new remix EP,  Acid Reflex.

One of my favourite chillwavers, Washed Out, remixed the song “My Terrible Friend.”

Such an easy song to waste away to… I’ve had it almost on repeat while doing my work here at the Zone.

Its been awhile since I’ve heard a chillwave song to get hot and bothered by.  Apparently the scene has moved on… but I can’t exactly fire up Skrillex in the Veneto Lounge on a Friday night.

So I wave the chillwave flag hazily and at half mast proudly!

Pitchfork talked about Expensive Looks yesterday.  Had a meh review.. but mostly because I think Pitchfork is meh on the genre right now… not on ONE Expensive Looks song features Azealia Banks soooo…

Trolling the internets and I found a bunch of EL remixes including a remix of one of my favourite Radiohead songs… “High and Dry.”

Radiohead – “High and Dry (Expensive Looks’ Blizzard Fantasy)”

Radiohead’s The Bends was #09 on my list of 20 Special Records. Coral and I have the LP hanging on the wall.  Back when Coral listened to more rock music… or I guess we listened to music together, this was an album she’d put on.

Radiohead generally remixes pretty good, but it tends to be the later career stuff.  Its nice to hear one from my days as a Radiohead fan.

Not sure if I’ll download the whole Expensive Looks album Dark Matters, but I will for sure be seeking select tracks for the playlist at Veneto.
