Beautiful day in Vancouver. Coral took the kids to the waterpark in Port Moody.

I have some music today from Atlas Genius. Atlas Genius have been teasing their upcoming record, Inanimate Objects, over the past few weeks. “A Perfect End” has the band working with Big Data.

Talking to Consequence of Sound the band says, “This song started as a jam we had with Big Data at our place in Los Angeles. I always have visions of a large, ornate, golden chandelier crashing to the ground when I think of this song. The end of one thing is always the beginning of something else, and there is always gold and diamond to be salvaged.”

Atals Genius will be hitting the road with Passion Pit….dates coming when they come. Look out! Record is out at the end of August.

Neu and Clay from Head of the Herd on CFOX talking their new record ‘Birds on the Roof’ (peacocks in Wales?) out on September 25th. Using Radiohead’s OK Computer era drumkit, and recording the new single “Live For Love” in Georgia at the Black Keys’ ‘Brother’ era studio. From their press release Clay said;  “Brothers was a record that pushed me to become a musician. It was a record we listened to obsessively when it came out and in many ways inspired the direction of our own band. So, to be able to journey down to the southern USA and work with the man who produced that record was an honour and I’ll never forget the experience. Mark forced us to think about the songs in ways we never imagined and by doing so brought out the best in them.”

They haven’t set the song up for blogging, but you can listen to it here.

Pre-order the new album and receive the single “Live For Love.” Nice.

Processed with VSCOcam with e3 preset

Thrillist had this silly story about a website that does nothing but pineapple stock photography. A lot of the time I hate the internet, but right now I love it.

Another reason to love all the creative folks out there. Koni’s remix of Obadiah Parker‘s cover of “Hey Ya”

We’re all about the Foals right now at CFOX. “Mountain at my Gates” is sounding outstanding on the FM radio. I am looking forward to their August 28th record What Went Down.  Here is another listen off that record.

From Vancouver, Ciele is mashing up The Weeknd and Ed Sheeran (errrrr O.T. Genasis super much mega hit). “If you’re snitching I go loco!” Seriously…. over a 134 million plays on Youtube. Right, what was I saying, i LOVE THE INTERNET!

Finally… ahhhhh I like that new Nicki Minaj song. I was trolling some remixes today and I liked this one because it stayed pretty true to the original but turned it up just a smidge.

And some mooooore progressive house.

Party on Wayne and Party on Garth.

We’re giving away a trip to Iceland here at CFOX.

Last summer I talked to Ryan Jacobs. He is an “elf expert” and wrote an article a couple years ago for The Atlantic about the belief in elves in Iceland.

blue sky miners
Blue Sky Miners are based out of Toronto but many of the band members are from Victoria.

Jenna Gogo and Mark Lavoie I remember from Victoria. Jay Mitchel is also a BC guy.

The group is getting some hype now in Toronto and have a debut self-titled ep and our first single is “Cold Water.”

Talking about the music; “This EP is the product of two years of exploration and growth as a band. The songs and lyrics are a reflection of our feelings and fears ranging from heartbreak to the uncertainties that the future holds. We are calling for change, both within ourselves and the world around us.

These songs are also a celebration of the albums we grew up with, utilizing vintage guitars, amps, keyboards and recorded using old tube and ribbon microphones. An homage to the sounds that made us want to become musicians in the first place. We were very fortunate to have an amazing team behind us. We couldn’t be more happy and humbled by the support and inspiration we received while creating this sound that we like to call ‘Rocky Mountain Desert Rock’. The Blue Sky Miners EP is a product of the many creators and artists who helped make this all come to life.”

August 20 – Victoria, BC – Upstairs Cabaret
August 21 – Vancouver, BC – Studio Records

Squamish Valley Music Festival this weekend. Coral and I are heading up on the Sunday so we’re excited for that.

New music! Young Galaxy are putting out a new record on October 30th called Falsework.  First single is “Body.”

PaperBag Records also commissioned a short story to go along with the record.

During the writing and recording of the Falsework, Young Galaxy and Paper Bag Records commissioned Scotiabank Giller Prize winning novelist/blogger/journalistSean Michaels to write a story that would work as a campaign piece to the album. Read the story here.
