FIDLAR released a brand new song yesterday called “Leave Me Alone.”
Stereogum had the premier where they say, “The new record doesn’t scrimp when it comes to giant hooks or appropriately buzzed-out guitars, but it does add an extra layer to finesse to the band’s reliably scrappy songs.”
Their new record Too is out on September 4th and I’ll be all over it next Friday for sure. God I love these guys.
FIDLAR is on tour in the fall…and typical US band, no Vancouver date. What gives?
10/22 – Wonder Ballroom – Portland, OR
10/23 – The Showbox – Seattle, WA
And I can’t believe this song is two years old now.

Hit the PNE the other day to film an episode of Sip and Spin and got to sample some food. I had heard rumblings of a mystical food called the “Fat Elvis” but sadly did not order one. I really should have. Wow.
Saskatchewanese indie rockers Library Voices have a new record on November 6th called Lovish,
The group channeled some classic rock vibes for the first single “Oh Donna.”
“Oh Donna is our stab at bastardizing classic rock. Brennan reached out with the skeleton of the song and said he wanted it to be thematically reminiscent of Lola, I’m A Boy, or Madame George. He suggested the name Donna and I spent the next few days lost inside my thoughts.”
And this is a bizarre story. “(…) singer/guitarist Carl Johnson was jumped, beaten, and left unconscious in the street in a random act of violence. The attack resulted in blood pooling on the front of his brain, a severe concussion, an inability to smell bad odors, and a long road to recovery. For a few months it remained uncertain whether he would be able to continue writing and performing music.”
Oh wow.

One dude is from Chicago, and the other is from Melbourne and now they live in Brooklyn and perform as Surf Rock Is Dead.
Chill. Hazy. A little of that 80-classic alternative/shoegaze thing going on. NOISEY likens their sound to ” DIIV, Beach Fossils, and The Drums.”
This came on my soundcloud after SRID and sounded cool. Plus I love the band name, Diane Coffee.
CRUISR is touring with my fave band from San Francisco, Waters. No Vancouver show? C’mon man, Pacific North-West is the best North-West. Get after it boys.
Hilly Dilly talking “Throw Shade:” ‘don’t be surprised at all if you find this track stuck in your head only after one listen.’
Matt Berninger from The National was showing up in the music newsers today because of his new project El Vy AND the tease that The National are recording a new record. Or starting to think about recording a new record. El Vy is a project with Brent Knopf of Menomena and Ramona Falls. They have a song out in front of their October 30th record called “Return to the Moon.”
There’s my daughter at Lighthouse Park. She scrambled up on the rocks at Shore Pine Point looking down the Howe Sound. What a perfect Sunday afternoon. If you ever are in need of a quick wilderness adventure near downtown Vancouver then this is your easy hike amongst some great trees and along the sea. The Burrard Inlet side boasts a beautiful lighthouse and some stunning views back at downtown Vancouver, Stanley Park, UBC and the Lions Gate Bridge. You round the point and you’re staring at Howe Sound, ocean and Islands.

This cut came on next on my soundcloud and liked the vibe. Band is Rrest.
Hanging out with my brothers at a family friend’s wedding on the weekend. CJ is in the bow tie, Matt is telling an out rages story and I’m on the right.
It was a pretty great couple of days. Wedding on Saturday, wandering Lighthouse park with the family on Sunday…and I *may* finally got my Numark NS7ii controller to work after a firmware update.

I’ve been thinking of this Buzzed article a lot lately. 31 Pictures That Show How Crazy Woodstock Really Was. The story mentions that 2 people died and 2 people were born AT Woodstock. Wouldn’t be something to catch up with the two people born at Woodstock and find out what their life was like/is like?

Loving this Eau Claire remix of Saint Motel’s “My Type.” That Saint Motel song will always remind me of driving around Portland listing to 94/7 Alternative Portland. They must have played that song every other hour. Heavy rotation.
Beautiful day in Vancouver. Coral took the kids to the waterpark in Port Moody.
I have some music today from Atlas Genius. Atlas Genius have been teasing their upcoming record, Inanimate Objects, over the past few weeks. “A Perfect End” has the band working with Big Data.
Talking to Consequence of Sound the band says, “This song started as a jam we had with Big Data at our place in Los Angeles. I always have visions of a large, ornate, golden chandelier crashing to the ground when I think of this song. The end of one thing is always the beginning of something else, and there is always gold and diamond to be salvaged.”
Atals Genius will be hitting the road with Passion Pit….dates coming when they come. Look out! Record is out at the end of August.
