New music from M83 today. The new record is called Junk is out on April 8th. He has a mega tour on the go (no Vancouver date…sadness), and first listen. Song is called “Do It, Try It.”

I’m sorry, I’d upload some pics today of cover art and stuff, but for last few blog post wordpress seems to be having a glitch and the uploader isn’t working. C’est la vie.

Paws

Scottish punkers PAWS worked with Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus on their new record No Grace. The first single is simply called “No Grace.” Record is out on June 17th. Like the vibe of this cut.

This is silly.

It was the big kid’s 8th birthday last week, so my wife and I bought her a bike. Look at that…riding a bike is just like…riding a bike.

My man Koni sent his latest cover song/remix. This time it’s Rihanna’s “Work.”

Koni writes, “When Shaun’s & Emma’s version of “Work“ by Rihanna and Drake was brought to my attention, i was really excited to get a chance to work with them and produce a remix of it. I’m truly happy how it turned out and hope you enjoy it, too!”

I was driving around with Coral the other day and Coast Modern‘s “Hollow Life” popped on the radio… she had to Shazzam it as we couldn’t place the song. But always remembered the band. Then today…email comes in pointing the blog toward a new song called “Animals.”

The Los Angeles tag-team blend a clanging percussion sound with a light and lazy vocal and melody.

“Hollow Life” was a moderate hit a few months ago. Almost 400,000 streams on Soundcloud.

shobocon

I got an email today from a band out of Duncan, on Vancouver Island called Shobocon.

Traditional hard rock sound made a little interesting with the male/female vocals. Side-one track-one from their record is called “Cheeky Monkey.”

rubens

Friend-of-the-show Justine sent this one up from her life in Sydney. The group is called The Rubens. Fun, easy-breezy, Aussie bro, modern rockers. Their album, Hoops, came out in the summer and went platinum in Australia.

vince vaccaro

Victoria’s Vince Vaccaro posted this nice cover of Chris Isaak’s 1989 cut “Wicked Game.” He writes on his instagram, “I’ve always loved this song, and today I decided to sing the shit out of it.”

Let’s have a listen…and is Vince’s way, free download if you dig it.

Came across this record on Noisey the other day. The band is called Head Wound City and features members of The Blood Brothers, Yeah Yeahs and The Locust.

The single has some harsh sounds, chanty vocals, and dirgey guitar riff hammering away like a chisel.

My internetting had me searching radio charts. I saw Atreyu had one lonely spin somewhere in the States last week.

The new video came out just the other day.

So down the rabbit hole we go and here’s a music video from last fall.

the news

Hey That was fun. This morning I was invited down to the Global BC morning news program to yap Grammys. Neat.

Listening to the new Zolas single “Swooner” today.  Great fun song from a record by the same name that comes out on March 4th.

Koni
Sebastian Dittrich is a German producer under the brand Koni. He took a cover of Coldplay’s “Adventure of a Lifetime” by a singer named Gabriella, and turned it into a bouncy cloud house song (like the sound Gryffin says music blog Yaqui.co). Sounds pretty great.

I’ll have to take advantage of this cover for a DJ set.

Oh sweet…then I hit Gryffin’s feed and he has a song featuring Josef Salvat! Love it. Happy Friday.

Here’s your nature moment of Zen…I went for a hike to Jug Island Beach on Monday in Belcarra…and along the trail I found this rock with water bouncing down it.
