If God loves me, I’ll be able to wrap I wedding I have to DJ Saturday night and rush to the Copper Owl to see Bear Mountain‘s 12:30 AM set as part of Rifflandia.

Vancouver artist Ian Bevis blends acoustic arrangements with electronic beats.  His song “Two Set” I have featured a bunch at the Veneto Lounge when I DJ Friday nights.  I love it!

Here is what Consequence of Sound has to say about “Two Step.”

The song “Congo” is pretty choice as well.

Maybe I’ll actually see THEE Winnie Cooper of the internet fame?  Could you even imagine.

Vance Joy
Melbournian Vance Joy will be bringing his positive ukulele driven good-time vibes to Rifflandia! (I think I hear the mighty uke in there)  Look for the Australian featured in a Go Pro commercial at the Rifftop Rent on Sunday, September 15th at 12:30.

Here is his current feature single.  “Riptide.” And here is a bio from TIME magazine.

madelyn Review Franz
Today on Madelyn’s first day of school… we threw Franz Ferdinand‘s Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action on the turntable and I recorded my 5-year-old daughter’s musings.

Happy Tuesday!

When I popped into Ditch Records the other day I saw a poster advertising Young Galaxy coming to Victoria! September 25th at Lucky Bar.

Young Galaxy’s record Ultramarine is getting love from all the right places… and is starting to push on commercial radio.

Check out this single off the record called “Crying My Heart Out.”

Its no “Pretty Boy” but it has a good energy.

Will I see you at the show?

when its dark
The summer rain last night was very nice.  I decided to go for a walk.  During my walk I thought about the old P:ano record which I thought was called When It Rains and It’s Summer.  But when I got home and punched up my favourite song from the era, “All of November, Most of October” it showed the album was called When It’s Dark and It’s Summer.

Back in the day at CiTR they used to have an old cart machine, and bands who submitted a demo or single on cassette had it dubbed on to a cart.

A single that we loved on The Morning After Show was P:ano’s lo-fi beauty “All of November, Most of October.”

I could listen to this song over and over and over (and still do considering I first heard it maybe back in 2000?)

Enjoy the rain in the summer!

Boardwalk Empire, the HBO series set in the age of American Prohibition, will be releasing the second volume of their soundtrack on September 3rd.  The record features a variety of contemporary artists performing the swinging tunes of the 20s and 30s.  Matt Berninger of The National fame sings “I’ll See You in My Dreams.”

Feeling tired today.  Its been weighing on me most the summer. Most the time, I get a surge and can rise up; but then this week, the energy is just not there.  Getting that vibe that something needs to change, or that I need to punch up “It All Feels Right.”  And believe it!

When I was in Ditch the other day… I saw the new Washed Out record on the shelf… damn, I should have bought it too! “It All Feels Right” is such a pretty song.  They had a poster for a Washed Out show in Victoria.  September 2nd at Club 9one9

Madelyn Review
Yesterday I raced down to Ditch Records during lunch to pick up the new No Age record, An Object.

I put the long player on while cooking up some dinner.  We were sitting around, enjoying our spaghetti and meatballs when the final track came on, “Commerce, Comment, Commerce.”  The song features a bit of a drone to close out the record and Madelyn remarked that she did not like the sound.  I posted the quip on Facebook because I thought it was funny and BFF Leigh said I should record her for a radio bit.  So here we go…. maybe an ongoing segment, maybe not…maybe we’ll leave the album reviews to the pros?

It is her goal to be a pop-star so Jack White, I’ll be sending demos in like 10 years… My hope it that you may develop the world’s first hepta-coloured vinyl single… and then one colour is rainbow, so I don’t even know how many colours that is!

Which record should she review next?
