Hey, Jeremy.
Do you still play music from South Africa? My name’s Rowan Stuart & I’m a
South African solo artist. My album’s more alternative pop than rock, but
definitely worth a listen, if I may say so! I’d be happy to send you a CD
if you think your station might be interested. Otherwise, I’ll leave some
links to check out my music, in case you wanna.

Thanks a lot!

An email from Dave between him and another Zoner behind the lore of USS’s new track, “Laces Out.”

Subject: Laces Out – Ace Ventura Reference

Hey Dave,

A quick regarding USS “Laces Out” and the potential Ace Ventura.  You are right on the money.  Here’s the specific remarks from their manager when I asked:
“Yes – that’s where it’s from.  When USS performs the single live, Jay usually asks the crowd if they know which way the laces should go according to Ace Ventura – of course they yell “out” and then Jay gets into a call and response with the crowd with him yelling “laces” and the crowd shouts back out” – now they’re ready to play the song!”
Awesome!
All the best,
Oscar

Coral and I decided long before Madelyn was even born that she would be a music snob when as she is growing up.

Teacher:  “Alright class, time to do a sing-a-long.”  How about Ba Ba Black Sheep.”

Madelyn:  “swa, That song sucks.  Just stab me in the ear, that would be easier than listening to this pedestrian shit.”

Keeping with Madelyn’s educational goals, Sara P found this wonderous product.  And hey!  Madelyn has a birthday coming up…

Yeah yeah… I bought a cell phone on Saturday.  My first cell phone ever in my 29 years roaming the planet.  I love the future, I am totally not going back!

Go with yourself.

Coral brought me home a magnet from London.  It says Baker Street.  Get it?  Cuz my last name is Baker.

Now this magnet was like 3 pounds and 50 pennies, or pence or whatever English people call their money.  That in Canadian money is close to about $7.236.t48.734!  Pretty groovy magnet right?

I come home from the Zone today and find my magnet on the counter.  I says to Coral, I says, “Coral, why is the Baker Street magnet on the kitchen counter?”

Because it broke.  My bajillion dollar magnet broke!  England, I want my money back!

Logos?  Is that a word?

This is an update on the original CRC logo from back in 2005/2006 or “season 1” of Capital Rock City.  I love the colours and radio-esque imagery of the sound meters.

Super Bowl?  What are you doing to watch the big game?  maybe?

Happy Friday!  All 90s weekend on the Zone.  Go with yourself.

I do watch me lots of morning television but I can not always be up first thing to see it, especially after a night of DJing at the Clubhouse, and I missed Erick’s coffee snafu!  Astrid’s reaction is well worth the price of admission.  Oh live television…

no worries Erick, despite your lubberly moment, our bromance lives on.

Capital Rock City #41 is a day or two late to this blog but all the better for it (OK maybe not, but I was outta town watching the Canucks get pushed around by the Blue Jackets and picking up my fiancee from the airport).

Listen to: Capital Rock City #41

DJ notes:

01) Automatic Planet – Dead Beats
David Eleanor is batting around this band as a future Zone Band of the Month.  What do you think?
02) Something Better – Long to Tell
Performing on February 14th at the Victoria Event Center.
03) Greater Than Giants – These Kids are Acting Like Kids
Direct from Adam at Sonic 102.9, this is Deadmonton’s Band of the Month.
04) Iconcrash – The Lovers
I got an email from a Zoner named Sab who was jazzed on this Finnish group.  Did you know that Helsinki used to be a Swedish trading outpost?  huh…
05) The Bronze Age – The Box
One of my favourite former Zone band of the monthsesssesessss.
06) The Broadcaste – March of Progress
Jason from the Broadcaste emailed me the other day about a project he is working on for PR school at Royal Roads.  The press release was in some sort of Klingon file type that my computer did not recognize.  Rule One of PR school, make press releases readable.  That said, I love you Jason!

oh correction, he Facebooked me the press release too!  Huzzah!

Thank you for downloading!

I read a great interview on Spinnerette.  I feature the song “Ghetto Love” on my show on The Zone @ 91-3.  Before that we played “Valium Knights” and even the Distillers.  A great read if you care.

Tell me about the single, “Ghetto Love.”

It’s just about being overwhelmed by humanity, and trying to find common grounds, and trying to keep it positive. The one thing that I didn’t really have so much of before, or care about, or feel that I didn’t even want it, was love. So it maybe it sound kind of cheesy but I have a family now and that’s pretty much the most important thing.

whoa… where did the days go?

I took a couple days off the internets and social networking and radio broadcasting… well not all radio.  I went into the Zone on Saturday to finish up my bestest promo EVAR .  But other than that, it was just me and Maddy for the last few days before Coral came home from London.

We fought off Blue Jackets, feisty toddlers on the ferry, nasty colds, and more than a couple tumbles to make it to Day 13.  Alive.  Huzzah to baby.

I am back on the Zone tomorrow and back to blogging and an all new Capital Rock City.

There are also a couple exciting ideas I am batting around and they’ll be shared or hashed on here over the next few days.  Plus I want to deconstruct another recipe from somewhere yummy, so if you have an idea post it, and I’ll get the answers.  Coral ate the BEST Caesar dressing in her life in Paris a week ago and because I have operatives spread throughout the world (I do, its scary) I will have him go under cover to get the goods on this dressing.  And maybe she’ll let me post a pic or two of her trip on here over the next few days if you care to see pictures of building in older cities than this one.

Until tomorrow I wanted to talk about Pearls and Oysters.

Have a Listen: How are Pearls Made?

The blog still managed to generate a hit or two despite the fact I haven’t blogged in like 5 days, so thank you!

Go with yourself.
