I drafted and published my Esquimalt Town Council platform.  Maybe you can take a minute and have a gander.  if you have some feedback, I would appreciate it before I go live with http://www.jeremybaker.ca .

Thank you.

Esquimalt Town Council 2008

Now I get that AC/DC is a wickedly popular band.  But holy moly is Brian Johnson out of touch.  He slams iTunes with one breath and in his next hands Wal-Mart an exclusive for the new record Black Ice.

There is so much wrong with his logic, it would take me all day to go over it.  And I also fully appreciate that most AC/DC fans don’t care, but as a man that:

A) admittadly enjoys the odd AC/DC track and wants the escape to simple musical excess like anyone else

and

B) still pays for his music and my weapon of choice is iTunes

His comment:  “Maybe I’m just being old fashioned, but this iTunes, God bless ’em, it’s going to kill music if they’re not careful,” 61-year-old singer Brian Johnson told Reuters. “It’s a monster, this thing. It just worries me. And I’m sure they’re just doing it all in the interest of making as much cash as possible. Let’s put it this way, it’s certainly not for the love, let’s get that out of the way, right away.”

is so aggravating.

It is wrong and Greg Sandoval explains why better than I ever could.  God bless ya Greg.

AC/DC’s iTunes Boycott is on a highway to hell (get it? its an AC/DC lyric)

The moral of the story… I don’t care if you don’t want to sell your music on iTunes.  I just won’t buy it.

whoa… peace

This is pretty groovy, I read this on PSR and want to share it here.

“In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan, armed with a reel-to-reel tape deck, snuck into John Lennon’s hotel room in Toronto and convinced John to do an interview about peace. 38 years later, Jerry has produced a film about it. “

One more thing to check out… Victoria rockers theset have included my baby girl to model their t-shirt and album as their profile picture.  too cute.

MySpace: theset

I read a couple great blog posts today that I wanted to share.

One:  Chris Anderson, the writer guy of the book “The Long Tail” and an editor for Wired Magazine, wrote a gem of an article.  The dude just seems to understand life better than I do so I read and I learn from his blog.

Today (or the other day I guess) he raps about the economy and how it ain’t all scary.

The Vanishing Point Theory of Bad Economic News

Two:  Vancity Rockgirl dishes up today’s LOL moment pour moi with her hilarious captioned take on the today’s federal election vote.

When Corj and I got our hands on a Jeep, the beast came with a year subscription to Sirius.  Pretty nice little luxury.  Commercials on the radio generally don’t bbother me like the do many people, nor does the music mix.  I get commercial radio and understand it.  Sometimes, I actually like commercials.  What I did love about Sirius was a couple things.

Sirius Hits One:  Their top 40 channel.  They played the hits, and thats it.  Came in handy when desgning my playlist for Hugos and when Coral and I would drive the hinterlands of British Columbia.

Left of Center:  Their KEXP wannabe station.  I never understood why Sirius never cut a dela to just broadcast KEXP, they do it better, better music, better jocks, more passion… but the show got ‘er done.

Howard 100:  LOVED IT.

Those three shows aren’t worth me me shelling out $12 a month for the service.  But I do miss Howard Stern.  I htink I will truely feel the impact next roadtrip Coral and I take where I’ll need ot pack CDs and and the iPod.  I enjoy talk radio when I have  along journey.  helps me stay focused on driving and its entertaining.

and I’m not the only dude to shuffle off the Howard dial.

Maybe one day I’ll make more money or something, then I’ll resign up… just for Howard.

Lastly, I’ll leave you with some music news form the Green Day front.  No getting aorund the fact that 2004’s American Idiot was a modern rocking phenom.  EWhen you punch up the ocean and hear the robot voice track tee-up “Boulavard of Broken Dreams” you’ve hit critical mass.

The boys are back in the studio with Butch Vig and here is a little taste of what they are working on.

I got my papers in on time so I will be running for town council in Esquimalt.  I think this week I will be getting my hands on a proper url for my campaign.  I’ll release my vision for our community and get some posters made up.  Good times.  Coral and I will then be hitting the road to put them up around town.

Please remember to vote for me on November 15th.  If you don’t live in Esquimalt but you know someone that does… please ask them to vote for me.

I am DJing tonight at Hugo’s if you plan on doing some drinking on a Tuesday night.  Time to get ready to head into the Zone.

Go with yourself.

Thank you for checking out my blog.  If you are reading this from facebook my last night at Hugo’s is fast approaching.  If you can make it to Hugo’s on Tuesday, October 21st then that would be super.

I have updated my Pure Volume page with a new clip from my radio show.  I had a cute attack when Drew and Jordin called into the show to request a song.

Please have a listen: KIDS / Safety Buzz / Bon Jovi

A neighbour in my building moved out yesterday.  Not normally a big deal as one of those there facts of life is, people move.  But I am really going to miss this neighbour.  Turns out, it was his wireless internet connection Coral and I were logging on to.

Coral and I had a minor panic attack when the laptop went dead yesterday.  We decided to be grown-ups about the whole thing and get our very own wireless router machine.

Not as painful as I thought it would be.  Coral set the thing up while I was at work.  She thinks it would be a good idea to put some security on our connection… because you know, sometimes neighbours will log onto your unsecured network.  devious.

I have decided that I will run for Esquimalt Town Council.  If you live in Esquimalt or know someone that does, I sure would appreciate their vote.  I have yet to see results from the last election so I am not sure how many I’ll need to win.  The population of Esquimalt is 17,000ish so I don’t think it will take too many to squeak in.  I have been researching like crazy on some of the major issues effecting affecting our little town.  I have some ideas and some things I’d like to see.  I have a vision for the sort of community I want to live in.  I need to articulate the concepts and make sure i have the facts to back it up.

The next step will be to get the papers signed and delivered tomorrow.  Write my platform and then think of how I can get my name out there on a zero dollar budget (or, almost zero).  I think I will try to lean on my buddy Ted or maybe Tyson for a website so I can post my platform and then it will be a matter of creating a flier and walking around my neighbourhood handing them out.  I figure I’ll campaign really hard in my part of town and try to touch base with as many neighbours as possible.  I’ll forgo the whole sign thing unless some Santa Claus type person drops some coin on me.  A Facebook group will be created and I think I might try a pub night.  I ran before in Coquitlam and pub nights were a great fundraiser/mixer.

If you have any ideas or thoughts, I’d really appreciate it.

Go with yourself.

what the fu..?

Weezer have a new music video for their modern rocking hit “Troublemaker.”  Generally I find Weezer pretty basic (this song is no exception) but people seem to really like this track.  The music is kinda cool, Weezer break a bunch of Guiness Records with their fans for example, The Biggest Custard Pie Fight, Air Guitar Jam, Most People on a Skateboard, Guitar Hero marathon, largest game of Dodgeball (which I think the Zone should try and destroy next Dodgeball season) and yeah.

I was inspired by the crumbling world economy (and Coral and I trashed our budget last week and have a LOT of money to make up) so I took Kraft up on their offer for the classic simple meal.  Grilled Cheese sandwich and tomato soup.

I went to Save-On Foods today, a company owned by my corporate overlord (I am saving up my Save-On points to buy my freedom) and bought the Western Family brand processed cheese, whole wheat bread and tomato soup.  Coral wanted me to get the Campbells’s reduced salt soup, but reduced salt soup is like $1.20 MORE than full salt soup.  Good thing we aren’t dying.  It would suck to have to buy healthy food.  You pay more for less… bizarre.

Its funny, Kraft always inspires me to try wholesome and cheap home cooked meals… yet I never buy Kraft.  I get to the store and the store brand is right beside Kraft and always cheaper… and I am standing there going, “well I am on a budget…” and reach for the store brand.  If I were Kraft, I’d have a talk with  the grocery stores, because they go out of their way to get you to NOT buy their food.  Maybe Kraft needs ot open their own store or get cheaper or something.

I also bought the Western Family ketchup which pissed Coral off royally.  I don’t eat ketchup becuase I think it’s the gnarly devil sauce, but Coral puts that red dip on everything.  She said the one thing you don’t CHEAP out on is ketchup.  “Its a rule.”  Whatever, I missed that memo.  She said, “I am mad at you, but one day I’ll get over it.  You’re still sleeping on the couch.”

Our grilled cheese sandwich and soup combo breaks down to about .88 cents a meal.  yum yum!

Coral does a pretty funny Sarah Palin impression.  She is like my little Tina Fey.

Wayback Guy & Sarah Palin

Also on the clip, some talk of Vampires and M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes.”

I got a phone call yesterday (actually last week, but dealt with it yesterday) from a Zoner named Clayton.  Clayton told me a bout a band that he is jiving on called Manchester Orchestra.  Pretty pleasant indie rock.  Also, not from Manchester, they live in Georgia… U-S-A!

Manchester Orchestra

The music is pretty, like Band of Horses.

Coral and I went to see Bill Maher’s Religulous.

Bill says that God is not real!  Whoa… I always knew that the only thing REAL in my life was money.

but wait…

This just in: Pope says that financial crisis shows that money is an illusion, only the word of God is the foundation of reality.

I am so confused.

If I didn’t have to DJ tonight at Hugo’s (as in, you should come to Hugo’s tonight) I’d think about hitting an all candidates meeting for my riding.

Baby is crying and wants up from her nap… so I better go get her.  In these troubling economic times, we are off to Save-On Foods for some kraft singles and tomato soup.

Last night was a rough one.  Madelyn has a cold so that means everyone has a cold.  She’d sleep for maybe an hour, then up wailing.  I battled her most the night then finally said, fuck it, and we got up.

Her nose is all boogery…. ewwwwww.

I am working on a few projects right now.

1) Satan on The Zone

for the past couple of hallowe’ens on the Zone, our producer Sheldon has produced these caller tags with Satan yapping on the radio.  Last year I took it to the next level by having Satan host my entire program… this year… it’ll be a produced hallowe’en extravaganza!

2) Explorations in Recorded Sound

I am still working to develop a radio show of heritage artists.  I did some work last night on maybe my 5th or 6th installment.  I like this show so far and will cut it as a demo version of the show and found a way to post it online for feedback.  This show might appeal more to your Mom and Dad… but if you like music like I do, there be something there for you.  The show I am working on right now is heavy on CCR and Roy Orbison.

3)  I am considering a run for city council here in Esquimalt.  Just not sure if I am ready to campaign right now to win.  I have been researching and trying to understand some of the issues that will matter to rate-payers in Esquimalt.

4) I am obsessed with John Jewitt’s adventures on Vancouver Island back in the early 1800’s… long before Fort Camosun or Judge Begbie or any of that.

Everything you need ot know about John Jewitt.

Wouldn’t that make a rad Canadian movie?

***

Today on the show, I am going to talk to a student at Reynolds (I hope) that says all the talk about how much money Oak Bay and Claremount raised for the Tour De Rock doesn’t matter because her school crushed them both… combined!

and I might try to get the talking head from Butchart Gardens on the show to try and explain to me how $22.50 to look at flowers is a good price.

I will need to admit to the man that we had a good time.. but after lunch, the cost for our family was like $80!  yikes… seems like the sorta place designed for aristocrats.  Get it?  Aristocrats!
