I was jamming out Terra’s blog today (as I do most days) and she said that I one of her top referreres? neat.

hmmm, My top drivers for traffic here as of today are Vancityrockgirl, Terra, Jamie and Laura.

Fun.  Thank you guys!

I finally got through my Top 10 of 2008.  But I have a feeling I am missing some gems.  If they come to me later, I’ll fix that on here.  We’ll explore my top 10 in Youtube video magic.

10) Jack Johnson – Sleep Through the Static

I just put this record here to start and then as I thought about it, yeah I like Jack Johnson… so what?

09) Mother Mother – O My Heart

Fun poppy band from Vancouver.  I played this record a ton over Hallowe’en.

08) Bloc Party – Intimacy

There are a ton of cool songs off this record.  “Signs” showed up on Gossip Girl last night during a big scene.  “Flux” is my favourite but isn’t a “true” single as it was recorded between albums and included on the North American physical release of Intimacy only.

07) The Hold Steady – Stay Positive

This record didn’t change my world like Boys and Girls in America, but the disc did get lots of play and still lives in the Jeep.

06) MGMT – Oracular Spectacular

I think this was 2008…

05) Plants and Animals – Parc Avenue

One of my best surprises on the year, a go to when making a playlist, and a favourite night out with Coral back in the Spring.

04) Grand Archives – The Grand Archives

Another favourite for late nights when I am alone or feeling lonely.  The song “Swan matches” is the soundtrack to Madelyn’s birth and the first few days home from the hospital.  Actually this record should be number one… but I already handed it in, so I’ll call it a strong 4.

03) Radiohead – In Rainbows

A record that got lots of spins int he winter of ’08 and one of Coral’s favourites.  We had a Valentine’s Day dinner at home when Coral was pregnant and we put this disc on front-to-back and it was perfect.

02) Coldplay – Viva La Vida

No record got more play over 2008 in the Jeep than Coldplay.  It was the soundtrack to our summer holiday and big part of the hype for Pemberton.

01) Kings of Leon – Only By the Night

fuck this album kills.  Its a tie between Akon (anything he touches) and “Use Somebody” as my song of the year.

I also really jived on Alkaline Trio this summer, Nine Inch Nails, if only for the outrageous concert, I am late to the party, but Fleet Foxes is growing on me.  I listened to a ton of top 40 and dance music and Cut/Copy stood out.  Fucked Up is also new so I have not had time to digest it fully, but pretty rad.  Deerhunter is another solid one that I just downloaded but haven’t had time to full appreciate.

One of Coral’s faves might also include Jason Mraz.

hmmm, how’s that?

Go with yourself.

ACK!  I forgot Beck – Modern Guilt

Johnny B. Shields is pulling away on the Movember race and is crushing me.  Boitano has also pulled in front of me too!

Priestess‘ Mikey Heppner stopped by the Zone today… we chatted about a bunch things that he had recently blogged about.  He is such a dude.  New record from Priestess is coming soon and you better believe you’ll hear it on my show when there is something to play.

Band of Horses is also working on some new music which gets all of us here at Casa La CorJ hot and bothered.  When I talk fave bands, Band of Horses is near the top of that list.

I got a call on the Zone phone today from some guy completely outraged that I went on the radio yesterday saying I wasn’t so jazzed on the new Guns N Roses. I don’t think he is a regular listener of the show.  He had “heard” through the grapevine that I had “slammed” G ‘n R so this knight had risen to the challenge to defend Axl’s honour and tell me off.  Turns out my head needs to be “shaked” because it wasn’t clear to me that Chinese Democracy was the “BEST record of the last few years.”  O RLY? He got many facts wrong and we talked it out… I think its all good now.  Maybe its good that people talk about my show with their friends, but getting the facts so off… yikes, I don’t think they were saying nice things about my show.  So I guess they are forgiven for never finding the blog either… then they’d know, I am trying to like G ‘n R and I am an odyssey of discovery.  I downloaded “Better” today.  Kinda good.

One good song on the new G n’ R record… to me that is a triumph as I expected zero.

Heard some Mother Mother on the modern rock inbox the other day.  very nice.  The main dude grew up on Quadra Island.

Corj and I are taking Madelyn to visit Grandma Mom and Grandpa Jack this weekend, so I’ll rap at cha on Monday.  On Monday I am taking a turn driving the Desert Bus!  Tuesday is Straight Up Modern Rock night at The Clubhouse, giving away some Nine Inch Nail Tickets; Thursday is the Movember gala; Friday I shave my stache and then it is the NIN show at the arena; I’ll be broadcasting live outside; Saturday is the Zone’s Christmas Party!

Have a good weekend.

I am having a minor obsession right now with Vancouver uber cutesters Mother Mother.

I read about them the other day in the TC of all places and thought I might like to check them out.

Groovy boy/girl harmonies like the New Pornographers or Stars.  A couple of the songs on O My Heart do get a little silly, but they are all super shiny cute.

Since it has become official that I am running for Esquimalt Town Council, I am getting all sorts of emails from groups in the region.  Today I did a survey for a group called Citizen Canine.  In all honesty, I had never thought too much about the life of a dog in Esquimalt and these people forced me to open my eyes and think… hmmm, is Esquimalt a good dog town?

I want to say yes.  But I don’t have a dog.  I hit Esquimalt’s website and the town does have lots of opportunities for dogs to play and exercise.

Having just finished the book, The Grapes of Wrath, I have moved on to another class, All Quiet on the Western Front.

Paul Gross’ Passchendaele was good, but it was no All Quiet.  The cover of the book says it all, “The greatest war story ever told.”

I have read the book before and watched the 1979 remake of the film.  I just finished reading the scene where they do their first battle.

One of my favourite scenes comes a bit later when the main character Paul gets trapped behind enemy lines in No Mans Land for a bit and shares a trench hole with a dying Frenchman.

One of these days I should make a list of books that all men should read before they die.  My buddy Bob told me that he has been in a bit of a classics trip lately too, so I should see what he likes, and if you got a favourite, lay it down in the comment section.

Grapes is on the list… but right at the very very top is All Quiet.

I think I’ll need to pour a tub and settle in to the next chapter of my book.
