That is an end of the year high-light reel hit by the Pride of Port McNeil. Just an amazing freight train right through the Blackhawk captain Jonathan Toews. The only sad points about the hit…
I like Toews, he’s a great hockey player, why couldn’t it have been Kane?
AND the devastating hit then created a mint scoring chance for the ‘Nucks that was whistled because the Hawks threw a tantrum after the text-book hit. boo.
Still, Nucks win, the hit is amazing and it’ll live on Youtube for all time… or until Youtube gets bought out and the servers go dark.

I did make it to the gym today and for once in my life, I ran into a business that was interested in catering to my needs for a cost that works.
Indeed Odyssey Fitness is 24 Hours. That in of itself was a victory, but the icing for me is that the fee is just $50 a month, no long term contract, no extra fees, a month free and I can come at 2 AM when no one is there and not have to worry about some fitness instructor “selling” any “programs.”
The lady Joanne was sweet, I told her what I wanted, the fees were simple to understand and I signed up! Heck, I might go after my DJ performance at The Clubhouse tonight. We’ll see, I have an early wake up call Friday morning.

Next, and keep in mind, I like the Olympics (I am wearing my Olympic sweater right now AAMOF)… but what the fuck is going on?
Maybe I need to send a resume to the Provincial Liberals because how they thought this story would go over well with Johnny Q. Taxpayer is beyond me.
This is how the meeting would have played out if I were in the room when this idea was hatched.
Government Cabinet Minister: “I think we should write a cheque for $1 million dollars of tax payer money to buy premium tickets to Olympic events.”
Jeremy: “no, don’t be retarded.”
then I would send them an invoice for $500,000 and Bob’s your uncle.
That no one stopped to say, hey wait a minute,” is what’s scary.
AND, why would any government official even have to buy tickets anyways? Shouldn’t they just flash a badge and walk in? We already paid for the games? If Premier Gordon Campbell actually has to “buy” an Olympic ticket, then truly, the IOC is fisting us.
A week or so ago, Victoria and Regina entered into some sort of civic pride bet to see which Provincial capital could raise more food donations for the local food bank. Regina spanked us (already embarrassed). The bet called for the loser (Victoria’s Dean Fortin) to fly out to Regina to shovel some snow.
Now the guy isn’t going to go? because of the cost of the flight and uhhh… carbon emissions?
Bike there dude. You don’t make a bet, publicly, on behalf of our city, LOSE, then renege on the deal. C’est dommage.

I was hoping to have JP Maurice on the show this week, but while I was away getting hitched in Vegas, he went and moved to Vancouver! SWA? The man did say he’ll try and make some time to hit the CRC studio sometime in and around Halloween. So maybe CRC 78 or 79… or maybe 80? Beggars can’t be choosers, so when he comes, he comes.
The show starts with a real interesting and dirty ditty from Cowichan Bay. Jess is my kindred musical doppelganger spirit. We have a similar taste in tunes and spend times late at night on twitter sharing music. She sent me a heads up the band No Don’t Stop.
Sunday Buckets got their name from the days when they first came together. They mostly had Mondays off work and would jam Sunday nights and drink beers… I guess by the bucket?
We’ll have a chance to see our October Band of the Month on Thursday, October 29th at Evolution night club. Wear your costume! Pay no cover, win prizes.
What the heck is “aftermathmatics?”
The show ends with some acoustic rock and roll from The Zone’s September band of the month, A Trophy Life. ATL is currently in Ontario doing a tour of malls. Fun.

Friday night last week, it was my buddy (my bro-ski) Double R’s birthday. We all met at Razer’s apartment downtown for some pints and to wax all nostalgic for years past. Razer plays guitar and keys (see above) for Acres of Lions and he had just got back from Vancouver where AOL recorded a music video for the song “Dance Sequence.” The is still being produced but there are some great candids from the film set on their facebook page. Check it out! and add them as a fan.
Acres of Lions are playing Hallowfest on October 31st at Saanich Commonwealth Place. Just $10! Believe it.
I had promised a Laundronaut song every week till we grind through their album…. but then last week I fell off the wagon so this week I present song number 2, “Come Clean.”
Now I must apologize for this week’s show which is kinda brutal, mostly because I didn’t put a lot of love in and wanted to get it done. Tomorrow I am off on holidays so doing multiple takes, or researching, or writing… was not on the menu… but next week (or the week after) I will have a treat from JP Maurice. He has promised to come by and perform a song exclusively for Capital Rock City. It is one of my all-time favourites from Maurice and song they have never recorded (that I know of) or even play live anymore, which is too bad, because its a pretty rad song.
Jason Walsh messaged me the pother day saying he got wind of the Capital Rock City podcast from Two (thank you Two for being a good soldier for the podcast and sharing with a friend). Jason sent me some music he working on and I like the style. Kinda Bob Dylan-ish? sure.
The show end with another goodie from Steph Macpherson.
Next week’s episode will be late (October 15th or 16th), and likely I think its time for a recap show where I grab some special moments from the past while OR actually I have a ton of live tracks recorded on my afternoon show in the Zone studio, so maybe I’ll do that. I have a Dudes song, A Trophy Life, Said The Whale and Vince Vaccaro. Yup that sounds like a plan for CRC 77.
I really wanna watch Hells Kitchen but the baby or Coral have lost the Shaw Box remote… so bed time then an early morning wake-up call and a trip to Vegas. Talk to you next week.
It was a magical few minutes I shared with Victoria’s Cory Monteith. Cory plays the character Finn on the musical situation comedy Glee.
My day begun today trying to track down Cory (see, I supposed to interview him on Monday but uh oh… I forgot). We were exchanging Facebook messages at around 10 something this morning when I heard Whoopi on The View (I watch it daily) say, “Coming up, actor Cory Monteith from Glee…” SWA? That’s a trip I am messaging the guy right now on Facebook.
Low and behold, in New York they have the internet and he messaged back.
Cory and I talk about how great Whoopi is, how he landed the role of Finn on Glee, growing up in Victoria, his fave actor on Glee is Jane Lynch because she is hilarious, and he used to be in a band in Victoria called Porch Life AND they actually played a Zone show or two at Steamers opening for old Zone Bands of the Month! wow. Oh and he is friends with Tegan and Sara guitarist Ted Gowans.

Not the first time I’ve featured the Crap Fartus Crew on podcast. JP Maurice is a multi-instrumentalist with the CFC and I recently (well not THAT recently I guess) had a chance to the CFC and every time these guys, they get so much better. They made a music video for the song I played, “City Drift.”
Rabbit are some great guys. I seem to chat with them on twitter all the time. You can see Rabbit live this Thursday at Evo. In fact, The Zone’s Back To School Party Bus might pay them a visit this Thursday!
Some new bands for me, Moss Rock and Purple Grimus are also playing this Thursday at The V Lounge.

The boys of Saul came by the Capital Rock City studio on Quadra Street to chit chat about their album ‘All Gods to the Front.’ We fondly remember The Moffatts, talk about full arm sleeve tattoos, recording in a warehouse, going on tour, adding crowd SFX to recorded tracks and play some of Saul’s fave local Vic rockers, Funk Vigilante and Reaver.

Funny story, I am out at The Station House pub on a Friday night. Meet a couple rad Zoners and we get to talking about the “podcast where I lay down some sick beats.” Oh Capital Rock City?
That’s the one. The one guy tells me he downloaded it once and loved the music bed I used… OK, nice and the other guys says he follows it every week… but has never heard it! He reads about it from my blog, Facebook, The Zone dot FM.
I wonder, are there others out there that follow Capital Rock City from the blog/facebook but don’t actually download the show? Hey! You’re the guy I need the MOST to take the next step in our relationship, I’m ready, you’re ready, let’s take this to second base and actually download Capital Rock City.

I assumed the dude was from Vic (or maybe Van or something) and included his music, which I thought was pretty good. Turns out the man is from Toronto! Zoinks, not very 100 mile audio diet of me. My bad. Talented song writer, very cordial in the emails we exchanged, so whatever. Free song on a podcast.

Said the Whale are great stuff…we did a show in the Sault! All the great West Coast music is making it really tempting for me to move back west.

I remember that! The guys have always had a special place in their heart(s) for our Island city because they do some of their biggest crowds outside of Calgary here. They too will be part of Rifflandia. A Zoner called into the show letting me know about that. thank you mystery Zoner person.

Most people I talk to around the Zone radio station don’t seem to care for the old Blue Bridge and are excited to have something new go up. Local Victoria historian Ross Crockford wants to preserve the old one. OK Ross, I’ll bite, why should we preserve the Johnson Street Bridge?
Funny story Ross, if we were going to be real sticklers for preserving history, shouldn’t we not only keep this monster of the industrial age, but also paint it black?
Just say’n. A black bridge would be mighty bad ass and make a real statement.

Capital Rock City #71 is a couple days late, and I apologize to you passionate CRCers out there who wait breathlessly each and every week for your fix of some fine BC rock & roll. Corj and I took Mads on a trip of the interior, then yesterday was just way too busy and I was sick and blah blah blah… yeah.
Today is the day, and I thank you for finding Capital Rock City and downloading the show.
Vince Vaccaro crafted a video for an alternate recording of one my favourite VV cuts, “Costa Rica.” Whenever I play this song for someone they become a Vince fan. Both my sister and Coral love the song. The video is an excellent DIY creation and well worth about 3 minutes of your time.
The only thing Vince… I noticed a shot of Vancouver radio station The Peak 100.5, but no clips of The Zone? next video I’m sure.
Our September Band of the Month ’round these parts is a group called A Trophy Life. You can hit the Band of the Month PAGE on THEZONEDOTFM and download some songs for totally free man.
TV Heart Attack is a Vancouver band that I have featured on the show before. Peak (and former Zone) music director James Sutton turned me on to the group. They recently competed in the Peak’s Performance Project where they were a finalist.
TVHA’s new record is called Lost in the Sway and is available now at finer record stores or on iTunes.
On October 20th I will have been married for 9 days AND I’ll be able to get my paws on the brand spanking new Daniel Wesley record. Before taking off on holidays last week, Daniel came by the Zone and recorded a song called “Pilgrimage.”
The shows today starts with a fine taste of the group Holy Fuck. I love this group with features the dude from the band By Devine Right! remember them?
Holy Fuck is going to be in Victoria for the Rifflandia Festival and as luck would have it, they are playing on the only night I have free that weekend to hit a rock show! Rifflandia looks amazing this year and I wish I could check out more shows… I know a few Morning After Show readers would be interested in Sam Bradley… yup, he’s playing too all you R Pattinson fans.
Next week on CRC 72 I am hoping to have the boys of Saul in the studio. Steve of the band Rotterdam and his set of Vic metal for CRC 73 and then maybe Two and I will be ready for the special live acoustic CRC 74? maybe?
